HOUSTON, TX - The Texas Stars (20- 8-2-2, 44 points) defeated the Houston Aeros (15-13-2-1, 33 points) 5-2 Friday night in front of 4,301 fans at Toyota Center. Stars forward Perttu Lindgren broke a 2-2 tie 2:23 into the third period for Texas' fourth win over Houston this season. Texas forwards Luke Gazdic, Warren Peters and Aaron Gagnon each recorded goals, helping Texas become the third team to reach 20 wins this season. Texas defenseman Brad Lukowich had a goal and an assist, as the Stars improved to 11-3-1-1 on the road this year. Stars goalie Matt Climie (9-7-2) stopped 27 Houston shots in the win. Texas will host the Grand Rapids Griffins on Saturday, December 19th at 7:00 PM.
Texas opened the scoring 5:53 into the first period. Forward Mathieu Tousignant forced a turnover, sending a pass to Tyler Shelast who fired a shot on goal. Houston goalie Wade Dubielewicz made the save, but could not control the rebound. Left wing Luke Gazdic scooped up the loose puck and scored his second goal of the season, giving Texas a 1-0 lead. The Aeros countered at 16:24, as right wing Jon DiSalvatore fired a slapshot from the top of the right wing circle for his seventh goal of the year. Texas quickly regained the lead at 18:50 of the first period. Center Warren Peters stickhandled the puck up the left-wing side and snuck a shot over Dubielewicz's shoulder. Texas goalie Matt Climie and defenseman Brad Lukowich both tallied points on Peter's ninth goal of the season. Houston pulled goalie Wade Dubielewicz (6-7-0) after he made four saves on six Stars shots. Anton Khudobin (9-7-1) played the rest of the game, finishing with 13 saves on 14 shots.
After a scoreless second period, Houston tied the game 2-2 on the power play just 2:23 into the third. Defenseman Ryan Gunderson scored from the left point, beating Climie on the glove side. Just 3:10 later, Stars forward Perttu Lindgren put in his own rebound, pushing Texas in front of Houston 3-2. Winger Sergei Korostin assisted Lindgren's sixth goal of the season. At 14:12, the Aeros pulled Khudobin for an extra skater and gave up an empty-net goal. Texas defenseman Brad Lukowich scored his second goal of the year for the 4-2 lead. Center Aaron Gagnon finished the scoring with an empty-net shorthanded goal with 54.7 seconds left in the period, giving Texas the 5-2 win.
