Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - Dustin Tokarski made 25 saves and Adam Hall scored twice as the Norfolk Admirals (15-15-1-0) leapt over the Binghamton Senators (13-14-1-1) in the East Division standings with a 3-1 victory on Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. The same two teams will meet again at Scope tomorrow night.
The Admirals took a 1-0 lead in the game's eleventh minute. Mark Parrish won a battle for the puck in the left corner of the rink behind Binghamton netminder Andy Chiodo. Parrish threaded a pass through traffic to an open Juraj Simek in the slot. Simek one-timed the puck over Chiodo's blocker at 10:14 for his fifth goal of the season.
Norfolk's lead doubled midway through the second stanza. Martins Karsums carried the puck into the attacking zone through the left wing and circled behind the net before centering the puck toward the slot. The puck bounced off legs near the top of the crease and Adam Hall found it at his feet. He shoveled the puck past Chiodo for his fifth goal of the season at 7:31.
The Senators came out firing to start the third period and drew a pair of power plays. They capitalized on the last one, as Drew Bannister's shot found its mark for a power play tally at 14:56 that spoiled Norfolk netminder Dustin Tokarski's bid for a second consecutive shutout.
Tokarski, however, was undeterred, as he did not let another shot past him on the evening. Hall iced the Norfolk victory with an empty-net goal with 48 seconds remaining.
Dustin Tokarski (26 shots, 25 saves) earned his tenth win of the season. Andy Chiodo (33 shots, 31 saves) took the loss.
Norfolk was 0-1 on the power play. Binghamton was 1-3.
The Admirals and Senators will square off at Scope again tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m. There are several promotions on tap for the game.
The first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive the first set of 2009-10 Admirals trading cards, courtesy of John's Tax Service and The Virginian-Pilot. Look for randomly inserted limited edition gold parallel cards. There is one gold card in every 10 packs.
The Admirals' annual Toy Toss will also take place tomorrow night. Admirals fans are asked to bring new stuffed toys to that game to throw onto the ice after the Admirals score their first goal. The Toy Toss is an official Marine Corps Toys For Tots event and a Norfolk Holidays In The City Event.
Also tomorrow, the Norfolk Admirals' wives and girlfriends will hold a holiday ornament auction to benefit The Joy Fund during the game. Custom-designed ornaments will be up for silent auction that night near Gate 14 on the Scope concourse. The ornaments were designed by the Admirals wives and girlfriends and are personalized to reflect the interests and personalities of Admirals and Lightning players. The Admirals will hold the silent auction through the second intermission. All proceeds will go to the Joy Fund.
Fans can cap off the weekend with the Admirals with the second post-game skate of the season. Fans can skate at Scope with their favorite Admirals following the game. A limited number of skates will be available or fans may bring their own skates.
