Albany Devils News Release
LOWELL, Mass. - Alexander Vasyunov's go-ahead goal with 8:17 left in regulation gave the Lowell Devils the 3-2 win over the Albany River Rats on Friday night at the Tsongas Arena. Goalie Mike McKenna turned aside 34 shots to help the Devils to their third consecutive win.
Trailing 2-1 in the second, the Devils would tie things up with less than five minutes left in the period. Vasyunov's touch pass at the Albany blueline sprung Ben Walter to the far circle where he squeezed a wrist shot inside the near post for his eighth goal of the year.
The Devils took the lead for good as Matt Taormina's long outlet pass sprung an odd-man rush that Vasyunov completed with a hard wrister past the blocker of Justin Peters.
With the victory, Lowell halted Albany's seven-game winning streak and a stretch of nine straight games with a point (8-0-1-0).
Lowell drew first blood at 4:42 of the first when Brad Mills picked off an outlet pass and had his shot stopped by Peters. Nick Palmieri raced over to the rebound on the far circle and spun his ninth of the season over the shoulder of Peters.
Albany tied it up with 3:50 until the intermission as Zach Boychuk split the defense and skated around a poke check from Mike McKenna before firing the puck into the open net.
Jamie McBain gave the River Rats their first lead of the game at 6:10 of the middle period when kept the puck in at the point and sent a quick shot toward the net that was redirected and fluttered across the goal line.
The Lowell Devils visit Manchester on Saturday, December 19 to battle the Monarchs at 7:00PM. Tune into the live Devils action at WWZN-1510AM or go online to AHLlive.com. For tickets to Lowell Devils home games, call (978) 458-PUCK (7825) or visit lowelldevilshockey.com.
