Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 18th year in the American Hockey League, announced that they have signed defensemen Julien Brouillette and Ryan Stokes to Professional Tryout Agreements. With the moves, the P-Bruins have 27 players on their active roster, including 15 forwards, 10 defensemen and two goaltenders.
Brouillette, 23, began the season with the Charlotte Checkers of the ECHL, totaling 15 points (5g, 10a) in 24 games to lead all team defensemen in scoring. He has also contributed a plus-nine rating and three multiple-point games.
The third-year pro had his best season in his first with Charlotte in 2008-09, scoring 29 points (11g, 18a) in 70 regular season games, plus one assist in six postseason contests. Brouillette spent his rookie campaign in 2007-08 with the ECHL's Columbia Inferno after four seasons with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In juniors, the undrafted native of St. Esprit, Quebec, amassed 142 points (33g, 109a) and 245 penalty minutes in 275 games between the regular season and postseason.
Stokes, 26, returns to Providence after spending the entire 2008-09 campaign with the club. The veteran's lone year with the P-Bruins was hampered by injuries as he appeared in only 29 games between the regular season and playoffs, registering a goal, an assist and 75 PIM. Stokes began this season in the ECHL with the Toledo Walleye, recording 10 points (4g, 6a) and 53 PIM in 27 contests. He had a Gordie Howe Hat Trick with a goal, two assists and a fight on October 31 at the Kalamazoo Wings.
The sixth-year pro has enjoyed significant AHL experience, appearing in 276 overall games with 28 points (9g, 19a) and 521 PIM with Providence, the Rockford IceHogs and Houston Aeros. In his career, Stokes, a native of Sarnia, Ontario, has suited up for 342 games, collecting 54 points (14g, 40a) and 693 PIM.
Providence is back in action with two home games this weekend. Tonight, the P-Bruins host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:05 p.m. for Mikko Lehtonen Poster Night. The game on Saturday is at the Springfield Falcons at 7 p.m. Then, the P-Bruins return home on Sunday to host the Lowell Devils at 4:05 p.m. for a Family Game.
