December 18, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Springfield Falcons News Release

The Springfield Falcons lost to the Portland Pirates 2-0 Friday night at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, ME. The Falcons will now prepare to host the Providence Bruins on Saturday night at the MassMutual Center starting at 7pm.

The Falcons fell behind just 15-seconds into the first period on Friday night when Felix Schutz scored on the game's first shot. Springfield ended up on a five-on-three disadvantage early in the opening period, but the Springfield penalty killers did the job keeping it a one-goal hockey game.

There were a pair of fights in the first period as Springfield's Ronald Petrovicky and Portland's T.J. Brennan dropped the gloves, followed by Alex Plante and Jeff Cowan going toe-to-toe.

In the second period, Portland expanded their lead to 2-0 when Mark Mancari scored his 12th goal of the year at 9:13 giving the Pirates a two-goal cushion heading into the final 20 minutes.

Falcons goaltender J.P. Levasseur was steady between the pipes stopping 29 of 31 shots on the night.
