Albany River Rats News Release
RALEIGH, NC-Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has activated forward Michael Ryan from injured reserve and assigned him to the Albany River Rats. Ryan has missed all 33 of Carolina's games this season after suffering a concussion in an exhibition game against the Atlanta Thrashers on Sept. 21.
In a separate move, the Albany River Rats announced today the recall of defenseman Elgin Reid from the Florida Everblades of the ECHL. Reid and Ryan will be in the lineup tonight when the River Rats look to win their eighth-straight game at 7:00 p.m. against the Lowell Devils.
Ryan, 29, has played in 83 career regular-season NHL games with Carolina and Buffalo, totaling seven goals and eight assists (15 points). Originally signed as a free agent by Carolina on Oct. 31, 2008, he skated in 18 games with the Hurricanes in 2008-09. The Boston, MA, native has played 250 career AHL games with Rochester and Albany, totaling 82 goals and 82 assists (164 points). Ryan was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the second round (32nd overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
Reid, 21, has eight points (3-5-8) in 19 games this season with the Florida Everblades. The Milton, Ontario native signed a two-way, AHL-ECHL contract this off-season and attended River Rats training camp in September; he has yet to make his AHL debut. Reid (6'0", 180 lbs.) scored 34 points (13-21) with the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers as a rookie last year, and totaled 110 points during a five-year Junior career, split between the Ottawa 67's, the Owen Sound Attack, and the Windsor Spitfires.
Fans can catch Reid's AHL debut and Ryan's season debut tonight at the Recovery Sports Grill, located at 62 New Scotland Avenue in Albany, at 7:00 p.m. when the River Rats visit the Lowell Devils. Albany will finish up its weekend schedule on the road against the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday in a 7:30 p.m. face-off at the Onondaga County War Memorial.
