Bridgeport Islanders News Release
SOUND TIGERS WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT DAVID MASSE
Left Wing - Shoots: Left
Height: 6'1" Weight: 203 lbs
Born: December 2, 1982 - Montreal, Quebec
Signed an AHL contract with the Sound Tigers this past summer
How do you feel your season's going?
"I could be playing better...doing more."
Wow! Is it hard to play with that much pressure on yourself?
"Yeah, but I am is expected to score and help out with offense, and that's not happening, so I'm not satisfied yet.".
You split the past two seasons between Reading in the ECHL and Hershey in the AHL. Hershey is in the same division as the Sound Tigers, so what did you expect when you came here?
"I played with Mike Souza last year and I play with Bruno Gervais in the summer, so I heard some great things about the area and the organization. It's also a plus that the Islanders are so close because you can get noticed."
You grew up in a very French part of Montreal, so how did you learn to speak English?
"I studied it in high school but didn't have much of a chance to speak it a lot; then my first year pro I was the only French guy in Reading, so my teammates helped me. I like it because I'm always learning something new."
There certainly were some great French Canadian players to look up to as a kid; who did idolize?
"Mario Lemieux. When I was young, I watched him all of the time. He was the kind of player I'd love to be...he has a great shot and is so smart on the puck."
As the conversation ends, David turns from interviewee to questioner, "How was that? It's hard for me to answer in English the way I want to, but I really wanted to do a good job!"
