ESPN Hockey analyst Barry Melrose to speak at RailRaiders symposium

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Cincinnati RailRaiders of the American Hockey League will host a Business of Sports: Hockey symposium Tuesday, November 29 at the Millennium Hotel (150 West Fifth Street downtown). The keynote speaker for the symposium is ESPN hockey analyst and former Cincinnati Stingers defenseman Barry Melrose.

The symposium will begin at 3 p.m. The program will be followed by a social hour from 6-7 p.m.

A panel featuring corporate partners, American Hockey League representatives and hockey fans will discuss the impact of marketing through sports on a local and national level. The panel includes: Chris Nikolis, vice president, sales and marketing for the American Hockey League; Adam Dlatt, promotions manager for GM/Chevrolet; Jerry Bishop, district sales manager for Labatt USA; Joe Trauth, account manager for Coke; and Mike Shannon, clinical operations director for NovaCare Rehabilitation.

Business of Sports: Hockey is a networking opportunity for those interested in supporting professional hockey in Cincinnati.

Melrose, who joined ESPN after coaching the Los Angeles Kings to the 1993 Stanley Cup finals, has been a standout hockey analyst and commentator on ESPN and ABC since 1995.

Born in Kelvington, Saskatchewan, Melrose made his professional debut in the defunct World Hockey Association with the Stingers in 1976-77. He played three seasons with the Stingers and parts of six seasons in the National Hockey League for the Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings before retiring as a player following the 1986-87 season.

Following his playing career, Melrose became a coach. His first coaching stops were with the Medicine Hat Tigers and Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League. Prior to the start of the 1989-90 season, Melrose was hired by Detroit to coach the Adirondack Red Wings of the American Hockey League. He led Adirondack to a Calder Cup victory over the St. John's Maple Leafs in the 1991-92 season.
