WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH - The Utah Grizzlies are proud to announce that Jarrod Skalde has been named the Utah Grizzlies winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Greater Salt Lake community and charitable organizations during the 2003-04 season.

Skalde is in the midst of his second stint with the Grizzlies playing the 1999-2000 season in the Salt Lake Valley as well. Always a popular player on and off the ice, Skalde serves as the main liaison between the Grizzlies and the Shriners Hospitals for Children leading the charge with Christmas gift exchanges and field trips for the children. Skalde also serves as the spokesman for the *Gather with the Grizzlies* reading program that made its way around to 18 different branches of the Salt Lake County Library. In addition to many other endeavors, Skalde also was the central figure in the team's child abuse awareness efforts, ARUP Blood Services Blood drive and bone marrow drive.

In recognition of his efforts, Jarrod Skalde will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming home game.

Jarrod Skalde is now one of 28 finalists for the 2003-04 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award, named after the former Hershey Bears forward who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia, will be presented during the Calder Cup 2004 Final.
