Kings Assign Barney And Gleason To Manchester

MANCHESTER, NH – The Los Angeles Kings, the NHL affiliate of the Manchester Monarchs, on Tuesday announced that right wing Scott Barney and defenseman Tim Gleason have been assigned to Manchester. Barney, 25, has appeared in 19 games for the Kings this season, recording 11 points (5-6=11) and four penalty minutes. The 6-foot-4, 208-pound native of Oshawa, Ontario, has also appeared in 39 games for the Monarchs this season, recording 31 points (19-12=31) and 23 penalty minutes. He recorded his first NHL point with a goal versus the Minnesota Wild on January 14. Originally selected by the Kings in the second-round (29th overall) in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Barney has appeared in 24 career NHL games, all with the Kings, and has 11 points (5-6=11) and four penalty minutes.

Gleason, 21, has appeared in 47 games for the Kings this season, recording seven points (0-7=7) and 21 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-1, 217-pound native of Southfield, Michigan, has also appeared in 15 games for the Monarchs this season, recording five points (0-5=5) and six penalty minutes. Acquired from the Ottawa Senators for center Bryan Smolinski on March 11, 2003, Gleason made his NHL debut with the Kings on October 9. The Senators originally drafted Gleason in the first-round (23rd overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

The Kings on Tuesday also announced that prospects Petr Kanko and Greg Hogeboom (amateur tryout agreement) have joined the Monarchs. Kanko, a 5-foot-10, 200-pound right wing from Pribam, Czech Republic, recorded 68 points (26-42=68) in 55 games this season with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League. The Kings selected Kanko in the third-round (66th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Hogeboom, a 6-foot, 205-pound center from Etobicoke, Ontario, registered 42 points (19-23=42) in 41 games this season with Miami-Ohio of Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). The Kings selected Hogeboom in the fifth-round (157th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

The Monarchs (38-24-6-5, 87 points) will say thank you to their many fans when they host Fan Appreciation Night at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday, April 2.
