Cleveland Barons News Release

CLEVELAND — The Syracuse Crunch announced today that Parma-native Dan Fritsche was assigned to the team from Sarnia (OHL).

Fritsche, 18, was picked 46th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Defying all odds, the young centerman made the Blue Jackets regular season roster out of training camp. Fritsche appeared in 19 games with Columbus, recording 1 goal and 12 penalty minutes.

He was then assigned to Sarnia (OHL) and appeared in 27 games, recording 16 goals, 13 assists and 26 penalty minutes. In 105 career games with Sarnia (2001-04), Fritsche has tallied 53 goals, 65 assists and 125 penalty minutes.

Fritsche took time off from the Sarnia Sting to represent the United States of America in the 2004 World Junior Championship Tournament. Representing Team USA, Fritsche scored the first goal in the championship game to help secure a 4-3 victory over Team Canada. The victory gave the USA its first World Junior Championship gold medal ever.

Fritsche is expected to make his AHL debut against the Barons on Wednesday night in Syracuse. The game can be heard live on Fox Sports Radio 1350-AM or by Crashing the Net at www.clevelandbarons.net.

The 6'1", 195-pound prospect is expected to play his first-ever professional game in Cleveland on Sunday, April 4th at 5:00pm at Gund Arena as the Barons host the second-place Crunch. The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a Cleveland Barons Nesting Doll. Following the game on Sunday, the Barons will hold the fourth "Post-Game Skate presented by Marc's".

Barons tickets can be purchased at all TicketMaster Outlets, the Gund Arena Box Office, and charge-by-phone by calling 216-241-5555. More information about the Barons is available by calling 216-420-0000 or by Crashing The Net at www.clevelandbarons.net.
