Albany River Rats News Release

Albany N.Y. – The Albany River Rats are proud to announce that Raymond Giroux has been named the River Rat's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Capital District community and charitable organizations during the 2003-04 season.

The North Bay, Ontario native attended numerous community events throughout the season, including hours with local youth hockey teams. He participated in practices with no fewer than six local youth hockey organizations, including Saratoga Youth Hockey, Bethlehem Youth Hockey and Capital District Selects. Off the ice, Giroux maintained a busy schedule by spending time with kids from the Equinox Inc., to wrap gifts during the Holiday season and by visiting with local school children with mental illness. The 2003 AHL First Team All-Star also offered his services to the local Big Brothers, Big Sisters organization. In recognition of his efforts, Giroux will be presented with an etched crystal trophy.

Giroux is now one of 28 finalists for the 2003-04 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award, named after the former Hershey Bears forward who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia, will be presented during the Calder Cup 2004 Final.

The Albany River Rats, in their 11th season as a member of the American Hockey League, are owned and operated by Capital District Sports Inc., and serve as the primary affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils.
