Portland Pirates News Release

PORTLAND, ME – Make-A-Wish of Maine will be granting the 500th wish in its history in April, and the Portland Pirates will help the organization recognize the event at their game on Saturday, April 3rd against the Providence Bruins at 7:05 p.m. The Pirates will be donating a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales to the game to Make-A-Wish and welcome members of Make-A-Wish and Central Maine Power Company to center ice for a ceremonial puck drop.

"Make-A-Wish of Maine is one of the key programs, activities and collaborative efforts of the Portland Pirates Foundation, and we are pleased to once again this year put our resources behind this fundraising initiative," said Brian Petrovek, Pirates' Managing Owner/CEO and President of the Pirates Foundation. "Partnering with Central Maine Power in this endeavor gives us an opportunity to have an even greater impact."

Two dollars from every ticket sold through Make-A-Wish and CMP will go to Make-A-Wish of Maine.

"We're excited about our milestone of fulfilling the wishes of 500 seriously ill Maine children since our founding in 1992," said Tom Peaco, Executive Director, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine. "Celebrating at this Saturday's Portland Pirates game allows us to recognize our long-term partnership with the Pirates and Central Maine Power while sharing our celebration with thousands of Mainers. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Pirates and CMP to help us on our way toward reaching another 500 Maine children."

The Pirates and Central Maine Power have partnered to support Make-A-Wish for more than two years now. In addition to special Make-A-Wish nights, the Pirates and CMP have raised more money through a powerplay goal promotion. For each home powerplay goal the Pirates score each year, CMP donates $200 to Make-A-Wish. Last year, the Pirates and CMP raised $6,000 for Make-A-Wish. Through the powerplay goal program this season, the Pirates and CMP have contributed an additional $5,000.

The Pirates will host two home games this weekend. In addition to Saturday's game, the Pirates will welcome the Worcester IceCats on Friday, April 2nd at 7:05 p.m.

The Pirates now offer a $6 ticket for all remaining home games. They are on sale at the Civic Center box office and all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets may be ordered by phone at (207) 775-3458, (207) 775-3331 or on-line at Ticketmaster.com.
