Schaefer Receives Second Call-up to Sharks
March 15, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. â Goaltender Nolan Schaefer, who began this season with the Fresno Falcons before receiving a permanent call-up to the Cleveland Barons of the American Hockey League in January, was re-called by the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League today.
Due to an injury that San Jose goaltender Vesa Toskala suffered this past Saturday, the Sharks summoned Schaefer for a three-game road trip this week that begins tomorrow at Dallas and continues at Los Angeles and Anaheim on Thursday and Friday, respectively. The rookie out of Providence College spent one game earlier this season in a Sharks uniform as a back-up to Toskala when San Jose visited the Vancouver Canucks on Jan. 5.
Schaefer appeared in 12 games for the Falcons this season, registering a shutout in his first professional start in the team's season opener and posting a record of 5-5-0 with a 3.12 goals against average and .910 save percentage. His second call-up to the Barons on Jan. 6 proved to be a permanent move for the AHL club. He is 10-7-2 with a 2.41 goals against average, .924 save percentage and his first AHL shutout on March 10 in 20 appearances with Cleveland.
The Falcons next take the ice on St. Patrick's Day when they face the Long Beach Ice Dogs at 7 p.m. at Save Mart Center. The team will be wearing St. Patty's Day specialty jerseys during the game courtesy of A&M/Big Bob's New & Used Carpet Stores, which the club will auction off following the contest in the Bulldog Foundation Room at Save Mart Center. All of the proceeds from the auction of the game-worn St. Patrick's Day sweaters will benefit the United Way.
Tickets to the game versus the Ice Dogs can be purchased at Save Mart Center 's Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets, which include select Save Mart Supermarkets, Tower Records, Wherehouse Music and Ritmo Latino locations, charged by phone at 485-TIXS or bought online by clicking the Ticketmaster icon throughout www.fresnofalcons.com.
