Sceviour's 200th AHL Point Helps Stars Topple Barons
November 27, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Texas Stars News Release
CEDAR PARK, Texas - Colton Sceviour tallied his AHL leading 15th goal of the year, and his 200th career AHL point, and Cristopher Nilstorp stopped 24 shots as the Texas Stars beat the Oklahoma City Barons 2-1 Wednesday night in front of 5,206 fans at Cedar Park Center.
After a scoreless first period, Chris Mueller put the Stars on the board with a power play goal. Colton Sceviour gloved down a clearing attempt from Barons' goaltender Jason LaBarbera and fed it to Mueller to hammer home into the vacated net at 4:19. The rest of the period was a deadlock, with Texas dominating in shots 18-4, but unable to beat LaBarbera a second time.
The Barons answered at 5:39 of the third period when Taylor Fedun took a pass from Linus Omark from behind the net and fired a wrister that beat a sprawling Cristopher Nilstorp to tie the game at 1-1. The Stars replied just 70 seconds later with Curtis McKenzie snapping an inch-perfect cross-ice pass to Sceviour, who angled the puck inside the far right post, regaining Texas the lead 2-1. Sceviour's goal, his league leading 15th of the year, was also his 200th career AHL point. Maxime Fortunus was awarded the secondary assist on the goal, giving him six points in his last seven games and extending his point streak to four games. That goal also proved to be the game winner, as the Stars clamped down defensively to hang on to a 2-1 victory.
Returning to action after missing the Stars' last two games due to injury, Cristopher Nilstorp stopped 24-of-25 shots faced to earn his fourth win of the season in goal for Texas. Oklahoma City goaltender Jason LaBarbera finished with 39 saves on 41 shots and earned the loss, in his first regular season AHL game since April 7, 2007 when he played for the Manchester Monarchs against the Portland Pirates. The Stars out-shot the Barons 41-25 in the game and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Oklahoma City was 0-for-2 with the man-advantage.
The Stars will begin a three game road trip on Friday, November 29th as they face the Grand Rapids Griffins for a 6:00 p.m. CT face off at Van Andel Arena. Texas will return home to take on the Iowa Wild on Friday, December 6th for the beginning of Sing for Santa Weekend. The December 6th game is another $3 Draft Beer and $4 Robert Mondavi Private Selection Wine night and it is the Stars Hockey Family Window Decal giveaway presented by Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority.
