Bulldogs Fall to Americans 6-3

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK - Hamilton Bulldogs forwards Martin St. Pierre and Christian Thomas each recorded three points on the night, but that wasn't enough for the 'Dogs (9-8-0-3) as they fell to the Rochester Americans (8-7-2-2) 6-3 on Wednesday evening at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York.

Rochester struck first at 16:06 of the first period when forward Kevin Porter beat Hamilton goaltender Dustin Tokarski five hole, assisted by forwards Jamie Tardif and Colton Gillies.

The Amerks extended their lead to 2-0 less than three minutes into the second period when Tardif beat Tokarski shorthanded, with an assist to forward Phil Varone.

Bulldogs defenceman Morgan Ellis got Hamilton on the board at 11:15 of the second period with a high-slot wrist shot that picked the corner on Americans goaltender Nathan Lieuwen. St. Pierre extended his assist streak to five games with the first assist on the play, while Thomas earned the other helper.

With less than five minutes to go in the second period, Americans defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen scored on the power play to make it 3-1 Rochester, with assists to defenceman Jerome Gauthier-Leduc and forward Johan Larsson.

Thomas got the 'Dogs back to within one just 53 seconds into the third period, assisted by forward Steve Quailer and St. Pierre.

Porter notched his second goal of the night, this time on the power play, at 6:40 of the third period to make the score 4-2 for Rochester, with assists from Varone and defenceman Chad Ruhwedel.

Less than three minutes later, Larsson scored Rochester's third power play goal of the night to make it a 5-2 game, assisted by Porter and Varone.

Just less than three minutes after that, at 12:21 of the third period, St. Pierre potted his fourth goal of the season on the power play to get the Bulldogs back within two. Defenceman Nathan Beaulieu and Thomas drew assists on the play.

With Tokarski on the bench for an extra attacker, Ristolainen scored for the second time on the night into an empty Bulldogs' net to seal the win for Rochester, 6-3.

Tokarski stopped 23 of 28 shots for the Bulldogs in the loss. Nathan Lieuwen made 24 saves on 27 shots for the Americans in the loss.

The Bulldogs went 1-for-7 on the power play, while the Americans went 3-for-5.
