Chicago Wolves News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill. --- The Chicago Wolves could not stop the Iowa Wild and Jason Zucker on Wednesday night, falling 3-1 in Zucker's two-goal outing at Allstate Arena.
Left wing Chris Porter notched the lone goal for the Wolves as the team dropped its third game in a row. Goaltender Jake Allen made 19 stops and suffered the loss.
"Different game, same old story," said Wolves head coach John Anderson. "We play well defensively but we just can't score goals right now."
Chicago (9-8-0-2) opened scoring 7:38 into the game with a tip-in by Porter. Defenseman Evan Oberg received the puck at the point and released a shot that was redirected low by Porter in front of the net.
A wraparound from Wild left wing Zucker evened the score minutes later. Zucker picked up the puck in the corner and muscled his way behind the net, slipping it inside the post before Allen could get there.
Iowa (7-11-0-0) took its first lead of the game at 17:54 of the opening frame. Center Carson McMillan sent a short pass to left wing Stephane Veilleux a few feet out from the net. Veilleux beat Allen with a shot glove-side to put the Wild up 2-1 going into the first intermission.
Following a scoreless middle frame, Zucker sealed the win for Iowa with his second goal of the night. He beat Allen (8-4-2) with a well-placed shot from the slot at 8:40 of the third period.
Wild goaltender Darcy Kuemper moved his record to 4-7-1 with 32 saves on the night.
The Wolves return to the ice at 7:30 p.m. Friday for an Illinois Lottery Cup battle with Rockford at Allstate Arena. For tickets, call 1-800-THE-WOLVES or visit ChicagoWolves.com.
