Worcester Red Sox News Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Thanks to an improbable bottom of the ninth, the Rochester Red Wings (21-24, 55-63) came from behind to win in walk-off fashion over the Worcester Red Sox (27-18, 66-54) by an 8-7 final on Tuesday night at Innovative Field.
The WooSox led 7-1 going into the bottom of the ninth, but Travis Blankenhorn's walk-off, two-run home run off the right field foul pole capped off a seven-run ninth inning and gave the Red Wings their eighth walk-off win of season. It was the 15th time this season that the WooSox lost during an opponent's final at-bat.
Worcester scored five of their seven runs in the second inning. Niko Kavadas started the scoring with an RBI single that brought in Stephen Scott. Two batters later, David Hamilton blasted a three-run home run to give the WooSox a 4-0 lead. After a hit by pitch and a walk, Bobby Dalbec laced a single up the middle to bring in Worcester's fifth run of the inning.
Rochester scored their first run in the fourth inning. With two outs and Luis Garcia at second base, Drew Millis doubled into the left-center field gap to bring in Garcia.
Stephen Scott singled in Ceddanne Rafaela in the ninth inning to extend Worcester's lead to 7-1.
Worcester starter Brandon Walter allowed only one run on four hits in five strong innings while walking one and striking out six. In five Triple-A starts since he was optioned from the majors, Walter has a 1.47 ERA.
Justin Hagenman followed Walter, and he tossed two scoreless innings while allowing one hit. Joe Jacques took over in the eighth, and he allowed one infield single in a scoreless relief inning.
The WooSox continue their six-game series with the Red Wings tomorrow at 6:45 p.m. Kyle Barraclough (8-0, 2.40) is the scheduled starter for Worcester. Radio coverage begins at 6:25 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon, 100.1 FM The Pike, and the rest of the WooSox Radio Network.
