Buffalo Bisons News Release
SYRACUSE, NY - The Buffalo Bisons scored four runs in the late innings, but it was not enough to defeat the Syracuse Mets on Tuesday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Syracuse was able to walk-off with a 5-4 victory at home.
The Bisons fell behind by a run thanks to a first inning RBI double by Luke Ritter that scored Brett Baty for a 1-0 Mets lead. The run came against Herd starter Wes Parsons who went five innings and received a no decision for the first time in four starts in August.
The righty allowed just one hit that came in the opening inning, and just one run. Parsons walked two but struck out four before turning the game over to the bullpen.
Buffalo was able to even the score 1-1 thanks to a wild pitch in the top of the sixth inning by Syracuse starter José Butto. The wild pitch scored Rafael Lantigua after he was hit by a pitch to open the frame.
Lantigua helped the Bisons break the game open in the top of the seventh after the team fell behind through six frame. Baty belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to give the home team a short lived 3-1 lead.
Tyler Heineman and Cameron Eden recorded back-to-back base hits to open up the top of the seventh for the Herd. Eden's RBI double scored Heineman, and two batters later the speedy center fielder was able to take advantage of a Syracuse error to score on Lantigua's second hit of the night.
One batter later, Spencer Horwitz hit a sacrifice fly that scored Lantigua and gave the Bisons a 4-3 lead. The RBI was Horwitz's 67th of the season. Ernie Clement had one of his two hits in the game in the frame, as well. The veteran utilityman extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a 2-5 night at the plate in the losing effort.
Syracuse tied the game with a bases loaded walk against Paul Fry in the bottom of the eighth, evening the score 4-4. Gabe Kolobsits induced an inning-ending double play to keep the game tied heading to the ninth.
The righty remained on for the bottom of the ninth and recorded the first two outs before a walk to Lorenzo Cedrola put the game-winning run on base. Wyatt Young's two-out double scored Cedrola to cap the 5-4 victory for Syracuse.
The two teams are scheduled to meet for a 1:05 p.m. first pitch on Wednesday afternoon. Mitch White is scheduled to start for Buffalo in game two of a six-game series in Syracuse.
