Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Moosic, Pennsylvania - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (64-54, 28-17) dropped their series opener against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (58-60, 24-20) by a final of 14-1 on Tuesday night at PNC Field.
After a scoreless first inning, the RailRiders opened the scoring in the second. Jamie Westbrook rolled a grounder into leftfield to plate a run before two straight walks, the latter of which from Brandon Lockridge forced home a run with the bases loaded. After a flyout, Estevan Florial walked with the bases loaded to force in another run.
The RailRiders had another big inning in the fourth. After loading the bases with one out, Florial stroked a two-run single to center before Jasson Dominguez ripped a two-run single to make it 7-0.
The IronPigs got on the board thanks to a Darick Hall RBI fielder's choice in the top of the fifth only to see Scranton/Wilkes-Barre plate a run of their own in the last of the fifth thanks to a run scoring wild pitch.
A six-run sixth inning was the last offensive hurrah from the RailRiders on the night. Franchy Cordero drilled an RBI double and Westbrook followed with his second RBI hit of the night. Jake Lamb then belted a three-run homer before Dominguez brought in another run with a base hit later in the frame to make it 14-1.
Josh Maciejewski (3-0) collected the win in relief for the RailRiders, firing 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing just a hit while striking out one.
Drew Hutchison (3-3) suffered the loss for the IronPigs, allowing seven runs in 3.1 innings on seven hits and four walks, striking out one.
The IronPigs continue their series against the RailRiders with a doubleheader on Wednesday, August 23. First pitch for game one is slated for 5:05 p.m.
