
Rampage Sign Staal To ATO, Reassign Weston To Las Vegas

SAN ANTONIO (March 26, 2010) - San Antonio Rampage General Manager Brad Treliving today announced that the American Hockey League (AHL) club has signed right wing Jared Staal to an Amateur Try-Out (ATO) contract. In addition, the Rampage have reassigned right wing Ryan Weston to their ECHL affiliate, the Las Vegas Wranglers.
Staal, 19, appeared in 59 games with the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) this season, where he recorded 49 points (12g, 37a) and 57 penalty minutes. Following the regular season, the 6-foot-3, 198-pound right wing played in three 2009-10 OHL playoff games for the Wolves, amassing four penalty minutes. In four seasons with Sudbury, Staal registered 153 points (54g, 99a) and 157 penalty minutes in 249 games. Selected by the Phoenix Coyotes in the second round (49th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, he made his AHL debut with San Antonio in 2008-09 appearing in five games with the Rampage.
A native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Staal has three brothers Eric (Carolina Hurricanes), Marc (New York Rangers), and Jordan (Pittsburgh Penguins) that were all first round draft selections and currently play in the National Hockey League.
Weston, 26, appeared in 23 games with San Antonio, where he recorded four points (3g, 1a) and 20 penalty minutes. Prior to signing a professional try-out (PTO) contract on December 30, 2009, the Henniker, New Hampshire native amassed 12 points (5g, 7a) and 31 penalty minutes in 15 games with Las Vegas. Prior to this season, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound forward appeared in 70 AHL games with the Albany River Rats over the course of the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons, collecting 16 points (9g, 7a) and 88 penalty minutes.
