Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 18th year in the American Hockey League, announced that they have released defenseman Jody Pederson from his Amateur Tryout Agreement. With the move, the P-Bruins have 26 players on their roster, including 16 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.
Pederson, 25, signed with Providence on March 19 and made his professional debut the following night at the Worcester Sharks. In two games for the P-Bruins, the defenseman went scoreless with a plus-two rating.
Pederson joined Providence following four seasons with the Princeton University Tigers. In 27 games as a senior this year, he scored 14 points, including three goals and 11 assists, to finish second among team blue-liners in scoring. Pederson's best offensive year came as a college junior in 2008-09, when the undrafted rookie appeared in a career-best 35 games with personal-highs across the board at five goals, 14 assists and 19 points. In his four seasons from 2006-10, the native of Smithers, British Columbia, scored 12 goals and tallied 46 assists for 58 points, while also compiling 82 penalty minutes in 128 games.
Providence is back in action with two games this weekend, both at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins host the Portland Pirates tonight at 7:05 p.m. for Visor Night with visors free to the first 2,000 fans in attendance. After a rare Saturday off, Providence welcomes the Manchester Monarchs into The Dunk on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. for a Family Game. Fans can buy one ticket, hot dog and soda for one low price.
