Bulldogs ice the Heat

Abbotsford, BC - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Abbotsford Heat 2-1 on Friday night in Abbotsford. Andre Benoit scored late in the third period while Cedrick Desjardins made 19 saves to win the game for Hamilton.

The ‘Dogs opened the scoring at 1:03 of the first period. David Desharnais took a shot from the blue line that was stopped by Abbotsford starting goaltender David Shantz. Mike Glumac grabbed the loose rebound before backhanding the puck past Shantz and into the net.

The Heat tied the game at 7:19 of the second stanza while on the power play. Josh Meyers stopped a clearing attempt by the Bulldogs before blasting a shot from the right point. Cam Cunning tipped the puck over the shoulder of Hamilton starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins and into the top of the net.

Benoit gave the ‘Dogs a 2-1 lead with one minute and 33 seconds remaining in the game. Benoit collected the puck while stationed at the left point. Benoit proceeded to blast a slapshot that sailed through the legs of Shantz and into the back of the net.
