Hurricanes Reassign Justin Peters To Albany

RALEIGH, NC-Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has reassigned goaltender Justin Peters to the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL). In a separate move, Albany announced that goaltender Parker Van Buskirk has been released from his Professional Tryout Contract (PTO).

Peters, 23, made his NHL debut on February 6th at Nassau Coliseum against the New York Islanders, and has posted a 6-3-0 record, a 2.83 goals-against average and a.905 save percentage in his first nine NHL games. The Blyth, Ont., native (6'1", 213 lbs.) is 22-16-3 with a 2.60 goals-against average and a.915 save percentage in 41 AHL games with Albany this season. The Hurricanes drafted Peters in the second round, 38th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Van Buskirk, 21, signed a PTO with the River Rats on March 17th and served as Albany's back-up goalie for five games. The Windsor, Ontario native will return to the Florida Everblades of the East Coast Hockey League, which acquired him from the South Carolina Sting Rays on March 9, 2010 in exchange for forward Chris Capraro. Van Buskirk (6'0", 200 lbs.) has a 6-11-3 record with a 3.54 goals-against average and a 0.879 save percentage in 21 ECHL games this season. The undrafted goalie played four full seasons of Junior hockey in the OHL, posting a 64-61-13 record with a 3.50 GAA and a 0.896 save percentage in 152 games split between Sarnia, Saginaw, Belleville and Kitchener.
