Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings got a third period go-ahead marker from Landon Hanson and 29 saves from Logan Cunningham on Tuesday night as they knocked off the Moose Jaw Warriors at Rogers Place.
The Warriors opened the scoring before the game was two minutes old after Harper Lolacher tipped in a net-front from pass Maximus Wanner on an early Moose Jaw power play.
On the Warriors second power play of the game though, it would be the Oil Kings turning on the goal light as Noah Boyko stripped a Moose Jaw defender of the puck in the neutral zone, walked in on a 2-on-0 rush with Rhett Melnyk and the two worked a give-and-go to perfection with Boyko firing home is ninth goals of the season and 100th career WHL point.
The Warriors outshot the Oil Kings 10-8 in the opening 20 minutes as the team's entered the first intermission tied at one.
In the second period, the Oil Kings grabbed their first lead of the game 7:51 in after Luca Hauf deked his way off the left-wing boards in the Moose Jaw zone and found Boyko wide open for a back-door tap-in for his second of the game on an Edmonton power play.
With just under nine minutes left in the middle stanza, the Warriors answered back as Robert Baco was able to deposit a rebound in front of the Edmonton net off a hot-shot from Brayden Yager.
The 2-2 score would hold steady as the two clubs arrived at the second intermission.
In the third period, the Oil Kings restored their lead just 2:46 in after Hanson converted on a 2-on-1 rush with Luke Robson for his first career WHL goal and point.
The Warriors fired 15 shots the way of Cunningham in the third period, but the young Oil Kings netminder had the answer for each of them to guide Edmonton to a second straight victory.
Edmonton went 1-for-5 on the power play, Moose Jaw was 1-for-2.
Next up, the Oil Kings hit the road to take on the Red Deer Rebels Friday night at 7:00 P.M.
