Saskatoon Blades News Release

Saskatoon, SK - The Saskatoon Blades have acquired Brandon Wheat Kings forward Jake Chiasson in exchange for the club's 2023 first-round pick, their 2025 second-round pick, and a conditional 2026 second-rounder.

The 2003-born winger was selected in the fourth-round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers. He was also named to the 2022 Team Canada World Junior Team Summer Camp along side 30 of the top eligible forwards in the country.

The 6-foot-2, 188-pound Abbotsford, BC. product is having a career year in his fourth full WHL season. A career-long Wheat King, Chiasson has amassed ten goals and 28 points in 37 games this season. In 141 career games with the Wheat Kings, the two-way forward has earned 81 points.

"Jake brings a lot to the table and we expect him to be a very motivated player who can help bring speed and skill to our lineup. He's someone we've really liked since before the bantam draft and has past experience playing with Wong and De La Gorgendiere at different events so he should fit in seamlessly." said Blades General Manager, Colin Priestner.

Chiasson made international news earlier this winter as he and 3 fellow Wheat Kings teammates helped save the life of a distressed person after seeing the man in danger while driving over a bridge in Brandon. Chiasson also has three assists with six career playoff games under his belt last season.

Joining a right-side featuring players such as Justin Lies and Minnesota Wild prospect Josh Pillar, the Blades have added another impressive weapon up front.

Blades GM, Colin Priestner, will be hold a media availability today at 3:30pm at SaskTel Centre.

The Blades still retain a 2023 first-round pick thanks to the conditions in the Brad Lambert trade being met Monday, receiving a first-round selection in 2023 and a second-round pick in 2024 from the Seattle Thunderbirds.

The Blades are thrilled to have Jake join the organization, and welcome him to the city of Saskatoon!
