Homecoming Parade Continues

After two stellar showings from Winterhawks friends, family and Booster Club members in Manitoba, we can't wait to see the Saskatchewan crew starting tonight! Hometown boys Gabe Klassen (Prince Albert) and Rhett Ravndahl (Birch Hills) play close to home this evening, before the Saskatoon natives Josh Zakreski and Braeden Jockims are set to take the ice against the Blades tomorrow.

Fresh Start in Sask

Starting the road trip with a pair of tough defeats in Manitoba surely stings, but the best teams find a way to flush frustrating losses, and the Winterhawks have done that well after each difficult spell this season. With a new province comes new opportunity and the Hawks will be keen to get their game going early in Prince Albert tonight.

Led by winger Sloan Stanick (36 points), 20-year-old defenseman Landon Kosior (32 points) and reigning WHL Goalie of the Week Max Hildebrand, the Raiders enter tonight's game with wins in two straight and three of their last four outings. Prince Albert's 14-21-3-0 mark ranks near the bottom among Eastern Conference teams, but recent wins over second-place Red Deer, seventh-place Regina and ninth-place Brandon (who topped the Hawks earlier in the trip) show how dangerous the team can be. It's no easy task, but after an overwhelming contest in Winnipeg, look for Portland to set the pace early at Art Hauser Centre tonight.

Debut on Deck?

It's been a whirlwind week for 17-year-old Braeden Jockims, who signed with and joined the Winterhawks on day two of the team's road trip. The Saskatoon, Sask. native had been captaining the Saskatoon Contacts U18 AAA club in fine fashion with 22 points in 27 games this season, which earned him a look with the Hawks as they toured through the prairies.

Now, with a handful of practices, meetings and film review sessions under his belt, and with a busy stretch ahead in his home province, it seems Jockims' WHL debut could be nearing. Whether that happens tonight or later in the trip remains to be seen, but Head Coach Mike Johnston and Co. will certainly want to see what they've got in the young forward soon.
