Portland Winterhawks News Release

Saskatoon, Sask. - The Portland Winterhawks Hockey Club today announced the acquisition of two WHL Prospects Draft picks and prospect Colin Frank in exchange for 19-year-old forward Dawson Pasternak and a conditional fourth-round pick.

"Dawson has been a great leader on and off the ice for us throughout his time in Portland," said Winterhawks Senior Vice President, Head Coach and General Manager Mike Johnston. "It's never an easy move to trade away a veteran player, but we feel this gives Dawson the best opportunity to develop close to his hometown and be a leader in Brandon. We wish Dawson continued success through his hockey journey."

Portland receives a second-round pick in 2026 and a sixth-round pick in 2025 along with Frank, who has recorded 40 goals and 43 assists for 83 points in 53 games with the Anaheim Jr. Ducks 16U AAA team this season after being selected by Brandon in the first round, #13 overall, of the 2021 WHL U.S. Priority Draft.

The trade brings the Winterhawks' roster down to 23 players following the assignment of Chaz Lucius to Portland.

Pasternak, a Winnipeg, Man. native, posted five goals and 12 assists for 17 points in 28 games with the Winterhawks this season in his second year with the club. Originally selected by Portland in the fourth round, #85 overall, of the 2018 WHL Prospects Draft, Pasternak played 62 career games and tallied 10 goals and 21 assists for 31 points in a Portland sweater.

Thank you, Dawson, for your time with the Winterhawks and for your contributions to the Portland community.
