Tigers' Rally Falls Short in Swift Current

Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Swift Current, SK - A valiant third period could not erase the first 40 minutes of Tuesday night at the iPlex for the Medicine Hat Tigers as they fell 3-1 to the Swift Current Broncos for the third straight time in their season series.

It was a tough start the first period for the Tigers as a turnover saw Josh Filmon open the scoring for the Broncos just 1:31 into the game to make 1-0 Swift Current. Despite several chances right after the Filmon goal the Tigers weren't able to cash in on a power play and nine straight shots. But a penalty at 12:48 would prove to be costly for the Tigers as Braeden Lewis would score his 3rd of the season at 14:09 to give the Broncos a 2-0 lead heading to the 2nd.

In the middle frame it would be the Broncos making the Tigers pay on a defensive zone turnover as Luke Mistelbacher would bury his 5th of the season which would spell the end of the night for Tigers goaltender Beckett Langkow (Vegreville, AB) bringing in Evan May (Nanaimo, B) in relief pushing the Broncos lead to 3-0. Swift Current took their 3-0 lead into third period outshooting the Tigers 16-10.

The third period was the Tigers best on the night finally solving Joey Rocha on the power play as Shane Smith scored his 12th of the season on a net front scramble to make it 3-1 Swift Current. but despite 18 third period shots, it wouldn't be enough as the Broncos would come away with the 3-1 win at the iPlex.

The final shot clock read 38-34 Tigers while Medicine Hat was 1/3 on the power play and 3/4 on the penalty kill, while Evan May stopped all 20 shots he saw after coming in relief.

Next up on the Tigers schedule is a trip to Manitoba and it starts Friday night in Brandon against the Wheat Kings. You can catch the game live on WILD 94.5 with the Voice of the Tigers Gino De Paoli starting with the Pre-Game Show at 5:45 and a 6 PM puck drop MT/ST.
