Round One, Game One Reaction

March 23, 2019 - The Winterhawks dropped game one to the Spokane Chiefs on Friday night 5-2 on a game where five of the seven goals were scored on the power play. "Certainly early in the game, I really felt good about our game," Vice President, General Manager and Head Coach Mike Johnston said. "We gave them a few too many power play opportunities and they capitalized. We know they have a good power play and it was a power play game. Then I thought in the third period we came out strong. Power Play Leads the Charge in Game One

March 23, 2019 - Game one of the U.S. Division Semifinal series was largely decided on the power play as the Spokane Chiefs claimed the opening victory of the WHL Playoffs with a 5-2 home win. Portland came out with an impressive first period start, out-shooting Spokane 17-9 in the opening 20 minutes and potting a power play goal of its own. Jake Gricius tipped in the first goal of the series and his third overall in his WHL Playoff career.
