Norfolk Defeats Durham 8-7 in Ten

Durham Bulls News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - Bulls left fielder Jonathan Aranda and catcher Rene Pinto both homered in the ninth inning to erase a four-run deficit and force extra innings, however Tides second baseman Gunnar Henderson's game-winning RBI single in the tenth led Norfolk to an 8-7 victory over Durham on Saturday evening at Harbor Park.
Heading into the top of the ninth down 7-3, the Bulls forced the extra frame thanks to two-run blasts from Aranda and Pinto. After Durham did not score in the top of the tenth, Henderson lined a single with the bases loaded to give Norfolk the victory.
The Tides went ahead with a three-run second frame highlighted by Henderson's two-run double. SS Vidal Brujan would then go deep with a solo shot to narrow the deficit to 3-1, however Norfolk plated three more scores in the fourth, including a two-run blast from Henderson, to go up 6-1. 1B Luke Raley would later rip a two-run blast to right-center in the eighth, though the Tides would answer with a single tally in the last of the frame to make it 7-3.
CF Josh Lowe (3-4, R) led all Bulls batters with his three hits, with Brujan (2-5, R, HR, RBI), Raley (2-4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB) Aranda (2-5, R, HR, 2 RBI) and DH Curtis Mead (2-3, BB) adding multi-hit efforts of their own. Durham batters with their four big flies tonight have now hit 164 roundtrippers this year, which is one behind Memphis for most in the International League.
Norfolk reliever Morgan McSweeney (1.0 IP, BB, SO) earned the victory, while Durham right Tommy Romero (0.1 IP, H, R, 0 ER, BB, SO) suffered the defeat.
The two teams are set to conclude their series at Harbor Park on Sunday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 4:05pm. Durham's starting pitcher has not yet been announced, while Norfolk is expected to give the ball to LHP Drew Rom.
The Bulls return home to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, August 23 to start a six-game set versus the Nashville Sounds, the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. First pitch of the series opener is slated for 6:35pm.
