August 20, 2022 - International League (IL)
Iowa Cubs News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Indianapolis Indians (57-57) took a 3-2 series lead with their four-run win over the Iowa Cubs (52-64) by a score of 6-2, Saturday at Victory Field.

The Indians batted around in the third inning and ended up scoring three runs, taking a 3-0 lead. Ji-Hwan Bae brought in two of the three runs with a triple followed by a sacrifice fly. Iowa made it a game in the fifth with two runs on an RBI ground out from David Bote and a single by Alfonso Rivas.

It didn't stay a 3-2 game for long, as Indianapolis answered with two runs of their own in the fifth on a fielder's choice and an RBI single.

Up by three again at 5-2, the Indians added a sixth run as insurance on an RBI single by Cal Mitchell. Manuel Rodriguez and Brendon Little each spun perfect innings, combining to strikeout five of the six batters they faced over the final two innings.

Despite the effort by the relievers to keep it close, Iowa's offense couldn't get anything going as they were held without a run over the final four frames to drop their third game of the series 6-2.

POSTGAME NOTES:

- Each of Iowa's top five hitters in their lineup recorded one hit tonight, while the bottom four combined to record just one hit.

- Matt Swarmer suffered his second loss of the year with Iowa, allowing three earned runs on three hits and four walks while striking out four batters. His four free passes marked a season high with Iowa and came one shy of his high on the year.

Iowa and Indianapolis will play the sixth and final game of the series tomorrow, with first pitch set for 12:35 pm CT from Victory Field. For more information and tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
