Tuesday, February 24

Wheeling 4 @ Peoria 2

The Nailers began the week with the final game of a three game road trip. The Nailers won their fourth consecutive game and swept a two-game series in Peoria with the win. Peoria took a 1-0 lead on the only goal scored in the first period. The Nailers tied the game 1-1 at 1:09 of the second period on an Alex Rouleau goal from Eric Erb and Eddie Pershin. Mark Kosick gave the Nailers a 2-1 lead at 4:10 with Brad Mehalko assisting. Peoria tied the game 2-2 with a power play goal at 2:19 of the final period. The Nailers responded with a power play goal of their own at 11:19 to reclaim the lead. Jason Jaffray scored the goal from Jake Ortmeyer and Mario Larocque. Larocque added an empty net goal to at 19:52 to end the scoring. Steve Crampton and Kosick assisted on the final goal. Joe Exter made 31 saves on 33 shots for the win.

Friday, February 27

Cincinnati 0 @ Wheeling 2

Wheeling broke a scoreless tie at 9:58 of the second period on a Brendon Hodge power play goal from Eddie Pershin and Mark Kosick. The Nailers increased their lead to 2-0 at 8:46 of the third period on another power play goal. The final goal of the game was scored by Jake Ortmeyer, assisted by Pershin and Mario Larocque. Tyler MacKay made 21 saves for his third shutout of the season.

Saturday, February 28

Cincinnati 0 @ Wheeling 3

The Nailers and Tyler MacKay posted their third consecutive home shutout by blanking the Cyclones 3-0. Wheeling took a 1-0 lead on a Kamil Kuriplach power play goal at 16:40 of the first period. Mark Kosick and Brad Mehalko assisted on the goal. T.J. Reynolds increased the Nailers lead to 2-0 at 13:39 of the third period with R.J. Gates and Stefan Brannare assisting. The final goal of the game was a power play goal at 19:59 of the third period. Ben Blais scored the goal from Eddie Pershin and Jason Jaffray. MacKay recorded his fourth shutout of the season and third in February by making 28 saves.

Sunday, February 29

Wheeling 3 @ Toledo 2 (SO)

The Nailers extended their season high win streak to seven games with a 3-2 shootout win in Toledo. The Storm took a 1-0 lead at 1:31 of the first period on an even strength goal. The Nailers scored a pair of power play goals in the first period to take a 2-1 lead. The first goal was scored by Jake Ortmeyer at 16:29 from Mario Larocque. Jason Jaffray scored the second goal at 18:00 from Larocque and Mark Kosick. Toledo tied the game 2-2 with a power play goal at 1:01 of the third period. The Nailers scored twice in the shootout for the win, while the Storm were shutout in four shooters. Joe Exter made 32 saves on 34 shots in regulation and overtime. Tyler MacKay played the shootout and made four saves for the win.

Record for week: 4-0-0, 8 points

Record for season: 42-13-2, 86 pts.

Jason Jaffray is ninth in the league in scoring with 62 points on 28 goals and 34 assists...Eddie Pershin and J.F. Dufour are tied for tenth in scoring with 61 points...Tyler MacKay tied a franchise record with his fourth shutout of the season on Saturday...MacKay's current scoreless streak is 149:41.

Team notes:

The Nailers recorded their 42nd win of the season on Sunday, equaling the second best win total in franchise history...They have tied the 1995-96 team that went 42-23-5, this year's team trails only the 1994-95 team that went 46-17-5...Wheeling is tied for 11th in power play percentage at 19.1...The Nailers are second in the league in goals for per game with 3.68 and tied for sixth in goals against per game at 2.58...The Nailers are eighth in the league with 33.91 shots on goal per game and second with 27.53 shots on goal against per game.

PREVIEW OF UPCOMING NAILERS GAMES March 1-March 7

Friday, March 5 Wheeling @ Johnstown 7:00p.m.

The Nailers begin an eight game in ten day stretch in Johnstown. The Nailers are 1-4-0 against the Chiefs this season, 0-3-0 in Johnstown.

Saturday, March 6 Wheeling @ Reading 7:05p.m.

The Nailers travel to Reading for the second time this season. The first game the Nailers played in Reading was on October 31, a Nailers 2-1 win. It is the only regulation loss at home for the Royals this season. They are 21-1-3 at home entering this week.

Sunday, March 7 Johnstown @ Wheeling 2:00p.m.

The Nailers conclude the weekend with a home game against the Chiefs. It will be the seventh of eight Nailers Season Ticket Holder-Ticket Redemption Night's. All Nailers season ticket holders can redeem unused tickets to previous Nailers home games for this game. There will also be a skate with the Nailers after the game. Fans are invited to bring their skated to WesBanco Arena and join the Nailers for a skate after the game.

Nailers Player of the Week:

The Nailers Player of the Week is Mark Kosick. Kosick scored at least one point in each game last week to run his point scoring streak to five games. Kosick had one goals and four assists for five points in four games last week. He also played at a +1.

Nailers Goaltender of the Week:

The Nailers Goaltender of the Week is Tyler MacKay. MacKay went 3-0-0 last week. He had back-to-back shutouts against Cincinnati and played the shootout against Toledo for the win. His save percentage was 1.000 and his goal against average was 0.00.
