BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads skated away with five out of a possible six points from its three-game series against the Alaska Aces last week. Idaho, with 73 points, is now nine points ahead of the fourth place Aces and five points behind the second place Wranglers. Over the weekend, both the San Diego Gulls (36-12-8, 80 points) and Las Vegas Wranglers (36-17-6, 78 points) clinched play off spots in the ECHL's Western Conference, Pacific Division.

Idaho will practice at home all week before taking on the South Carolina Stingrays (31-21-3, 65 points) for the first time ever this Friday and Saturday. The Stingrays are currently in fourth place in the tight race for playoff spots in the ECHL's Eastern Conference, Southern Division.

IDAHO STEELHEADS RECORD: 33-16-7, 73 points. At home: 19-5-3. On the road: 14-1-4. Last ten: 6-2-2. Streak: 2-0-0.

SIZZLING OFFENSE:

Scott Burt has scored 9 points in his last five games (6 goals, 4 assists)... Adam Copeland, Brett Draney and Dylan Gyori have each tallied 7 points in their last five games.

DEFENSIVE: David Cornacchia ranks ninth in the ECHL amongst defenseman for scoring, and tops the team for defenseman with 36 points, 7 goals, 29 assists... Jeremy Mylymok (5 goals, 13 assists) leads the team overall in plus/minus with a +16.

IN THE NET: Goaltender Blair Allison is 4-0-1 in his last five starts, recording a 2.52 goals-against average. He has stopped 140 of 153 shots.

GAME RECAPS:

2/25/04: ALASKA 3, IDAHO 2 (SO)

BOISE, Idaho (Ticker) -- Jordan Cameron scored late in the third period and Mike Jones recorded the decisive shootout goal as the Alaska Aces rallied past the Idaho Steelheads, 3-2. Cameron tied the game at 2-2 with a tally in the final 1:47 of regulation, forcing overtime, and Jones beat Idaho goalie Blair Allison for the only goal in the shootout. Joe Talbot tallied early in the first period for Alaska, which has won four of its last six games on the road. Dan Murphy, who turned away all five attempts in the shootout, made 25 saves to pick up his team-leading 23rd win of the season. Dylan Gyori scored with just 2:03 remaining in regulation to give the Steelheads a temporary 2-1 lead. Brett Draney also tallied for Idaho, which had its four-game unbeaten streak snapped. Allison stopped 32 shots in the loss.

2/27/04: IDAHO 6, ALASKA 1

BOISE, Idaho (Ticker) -- Ben Keup and Brett Draney both had a goal and an assist as the Idaho Steelheads defeated the Alaska Aces, 6-1. Keup scored early in the second period to give Idaho a 3-1 edge and assisted on a shorthanded tally by David Cornacchia to account for the final margin. Draney helped out on the first goal of the game - a power-play marker by Darrel Hay - and scored midway through the third to make it 5-1. Scott Burt, who had a hat trick vs. the Toledo Storm February 21, supplied three assists for the Steelheads. Blair Allison turned away 14 of 15 shots for Idaho, which has not lost in its last six games (4-0-2). Jordan Cameron provided a goal on the power play late in the first period for Alaska, tying the score at 1-1. Dan Murphy finished with 26 saves for the Aces, who were outshot, 32-15, and saw their three-game winning streak vs. the Steelheads snapped.

2/28/04: IDAHO 7, ALASKA 4

BOISE, Idaho (Ticker) -- Scott Burt and Brett Draney both had a pair of goals as the Idaho Steelheads rallied to top the Alaska Aces, 7-4. Burt's second goal of the game snapped a 4-4 tie at the 5:22 mark of the third period. Draney followed with his second goal 12:41 into the final frame. David Bararuk provided a goal and two assists for Idaho, which has recorded a point in seven consecutive games (5-0-2). Blair Allison turned away 31 shots to even his mark at 3-3-1 vs. Alaska. Wes Dorey scored in each period to notch his first career hat trick and snap a 10-game streak without a goal. Dan Murphy stopped 30 of 37 shots for the Aces, who lost for the fourth time in five outings.
