March 1, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release

LAST WEEK'S RECORD: 1-4-0 OVERALL RECORD: 16-34-6, 38 pts.

Feb. 24 @ Las Vegas, 3-2 Loss – The Falcons fell behind the Wranglers by a score of 3-0 early in the third period before rallying to within a single goal following tallies by Blair Clarance and Kris Porter. Despite skating on the power play and with the goaltender pulled in the final two minutes, the club never found the equalizer.

Feb. 25 vs. San Diego, 5-2 Loss – For the second straight game Fresno trailed by three only to rally within, 3-2, this time off a pair of goals by Michael Kiesman. Costly penalties in the final 10 minutes of the third period, though, led to two San Diego power play efforts and the Falcons lost going away.

Feb. 27 vs. Bakersfield, 2-1 Win – Goaltender Mike Brusseau made 37 saves and Neil Wilkinson and Kris Porter scored as the Falcons defeated the Condors in the rivals' 10th and final meeting of the season.

Feb. 28 @ Long Beach, 5-3 Loss – Fresno overcame a pair of one-goal deficits to take a 3-2 lead early in third period after a goal by Jason Weaver. Long Beach scored on the power play to tie the game with 10 minutes remaining and then added an unassisted, short-handed goal with four minutes left. The Ice Dogs also scored an empty-netter for the final difference.

Feb. 29 @ Las Vegas, 1-0 Loss – With both teams playing their fifth game in six days, the Falcons and Wranglers battled to a scoreless tie through 59 minutes of hockey before Deryk Engelland's wrist shot from the right point deflected off a body and over the right shoulder of Fresno goaltender Mike Brusseau to give Las Vegas the victory with less than 22 seconds remaining in regulation.

NOTES

· Goaltender Mike Brusseau's 1-3-0 record last week might not reflect his outstanding play, but his 1.44 goals against average and 94.9% save percentage for the week surely do.

· Jason Weaver's 14th goal of the season on Saturday at Long Beach ties him for the team lead with the recently acquired Brian Passmore.

· Fresno begins the week in last place in the Pacific Division, six points behind the sixth-place Long Beach Ice Dogs and 9 points behind the fifth-place Bakersfield Condors. They are currently 26 points out of the division's fourth and final playoff position.
