Friday, January 9

Reading 0 @ Wheeling 2

With this win, the Nailers improved their consecutive win streak to five games and their unbeaten streak to nine games. The Nailers out shot the Royals 18-9 in the first period, but the period ended in a scoreless tie. Brendon Hodge gave the Nailers a 1-0 lead at 19:25 of the second period with Eddie Pershin and Mark Kosick assisting. The Nailers extended their lead to 2-0 at 19:38 of the third period on a J.C. Ruid empty net goal. Kosick and Jake Ortmeyer assisted. Nick Boucher made 28 saves to record his fourth shutout of the season. With the shutout, he tied the franchise record for most shutout in a season by a goaltender.

Saturday, January 10

Wheeling 2 @ Cincinnati 5

The Nailers five game-winning streak, nine game unbeaten streak and five game road winning streak came to an end with this loss. Neither team scored in the first period as the Nailers were out shot 7-4. The Cyclones scored a pair of second period goals on Nick Boucher to take a 2-0 lead. Joe Exter made his professional hockey debut when he played the third period. Cincinnati took a 3-0 lead with an early third period power play goal. Steve scored the Nailers first goal of the game, while on a power play, from J.F. Dufour and Jason Jaffray. Cincinnati reclaimed a three goal lead a few minutes later at 4-1. Bogdan Rudenko got the Nailers back to within two goals at 4-2 with two minutes left in regulation. A Cincinnati empty net goal ended the scoring in the Nailers 5-2 loss.

Sunday, January 11

Reading 2 @ Wheeling 3 (SO)

The Nailers had to erase a third period deficit to force overtime and an eventual shootout to get the win. Wheeling took a 1-0 lead on a J.C. Ruid power play goal at 15:31 of the first period. Jason Jaffray and J.F. Dufour assisted on the goal. Reading tied the game 1-1 on a Lars Pettersen goal in the second period. The Royals took a 2-1 lead at 6:57 of the third period on a Kent Davyduke goal. The Nailers tied the game 2-2 at 13:33 of the third period. Jaffray scored his 20th goal of the season from Steve Crampton and Mark Kosick. Neither team scored in the overtime and the game went to a shootout. With each team scoring twice in the first five rounds the shootout went to sudden death. After Nick Boucher made a save in the sixth round, Jaffray scored for the Nailers to give them a 3-2 win and extend the Nailers home unbeaten streak to nine games. Boucher made 24 saves on 26 shots and four saves on six shots in the shootout for the win.

Record for season: 25-10-2, 50 pts. (1st in Northern Division, Eastern Conference, ECHL)

Jason Jaffray is fourth in the league in scoring with 49 points on 20 goals and 29 assists...J.F. Ruid leads the Nailers with five game-winning goals...T.J. Reynolds leads the team in +/- with a +20.

The Nailers Player of the Week is Jason Jaffray. Jaffray had 3 points on one goal and two assists in three games last week. He had the game tying goal in the third period on Sunday and the game-winning goal in the shootout.

Nailers Goaltender of the Week:

The Nailers Goaltender of the Week is Nick Boucher. Boucher went 2-0-0 in three games last week, including his fourth shutout of the season on Friday against Reading. He made 67 saves on 71 shots for a .944 save percentage and had a 1.45 goals against average.
