The Peoria Rivermen, the ECHL's best road team, handed the expansion Las Vegas Wranglers, the League's best home team, just its second loss at the Orleans Arena in 18 opportunities (15-2-1), winning 4-2 before a crowd of 6,412 on Friday night in the first of two in a row between the clubs.
The Rivermen improved to 11-3-4 on the road and 10-1-4 in their last 15 road contests.
The victory was Peoria's fourth straight, equaling a season high set on November 21, 2003. The win also extended Peoria's unbeaten-in-regulation streak to seven games (6-0-1).
The Rivermen sealed the win with an empty-net, power play goal with 13 seconds left. Rookie Scott Turner corralled an errant Marty Johnston shot off the endboards and snapped in his third professional goal off the stick of Las Vegas defenseman Derek Engelland from the end redline.
The game winner also came on the power play. Brendan Brooks, stationed to the left of the Las Vegas net, faked a pass to the left point and quickly directed a pass across the goal crease to Randy Rowe, who â just off the right post â one-timed a slap shot past Wranglers goaltender Marc Magliarditi for his ECHL-leading 23rd tally of the year.
It was Rowe's sixth game winner, tying him for the ECHL lead. He extended his team season-high point streak to nine games with 17 points (10g, 7a).
The Rivermen were 2-for-5 with the man advantage, while Las Vegas was 0-for-2.
The Wranglers tied the game 2-2 at 10:51 of the third period. Justin Kelly cleaned up a Chris Kenady shot from in close for his 12th of the season.
Peoria (19-8-7, 45 points) remains in third place in the nine-team Northern Division, two points back of the defending Kelly Cup Champion Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. Las Vegas (21-10-5, 47 points) is 3-3-0 in its last six games but remains in first place in the Pacific Division.

The Peoria Rivermen dealt themselves a pair of wins over the Las Vegas Wranglers, winning 6-2 on Saturday night before a crowd of 5,701 at the Orleans Arena. The Rivermen won 4-2 last night against Las Vegas.
The win was Peoria's fourth in a row on the road, equaling a season high. The Rivermen are 11-1-4 over their last 16 road games; they are 12-3-4 on the road for the year. The victory also gave Peoria its first five-game winning streak of the season.
The loss was just Las Vegas' third in 19 opportunities (15-3-1) at the Orleans Arena.
The Rivermen made it 5-2 at 10:25 of the third period. Tyler Rennette collected a pass below the end redline to the left of the goal, circled out front and roofed the puck over Las Vegas goaltender Marc Magliarditi for his 15th tally of the season.
Randy Rowe set up the goal, extending his team, season-high point streak to 10 games with 18 points (10g, 8a).
Peoria completed the scoring at 14:58 of the third. Brendan Brooks stole the puck outside of the Las Vegas zone and darted in on a breakaway, roofing the puck over Magliarditi for his 10th tally of the year.
Peoria (20-8-7, 47 points) remains in third place in the Northern Division, two points behind the defending Kelly Cup Champion Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. Las Vegas (21-11-5, 47 points) dropped to second place in the Pacific Division, one point behind the Idaho Steelheads, who won in Bakersfield 3-2 on this night.

Four-And Five-Game Fun
The Rivermen (20-8-7, 47 points) have won five in a row overall for the first time this season (the longest current streak in the ECHL) and equaled a season-high, four-game road winning streak (tied for the longest current streak in the ECHL with Idaho, Columbus and South Carolina) after winning back-to-back games by scores of 4-2 and 6-2 in Las Vegas this past Friday and Saturday. Peoria won four straight overall from November 14-21 and won four in a row on the road from November 1-21. The Rivermen are 8-1-1 overall in their last 10 games and 11-1-4 over their last 16 road games. Peoria owns the ECHL's best road winning percentage (12-3-4, 74 percent).
Five From First
Peoria is five points back of first place in the Northern Division and the top spot in the ECHL, trailing the Wheeling Nailers (25-10-2, 52 points) with two games in hand. Peoria is in third place in the Northern Division, two points behind the defending Kelly Cup Champion Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies having played one more game. The Rivermen are tied with four teams (Alaska, Las Vegas, Gwinnett & Florida) for seventh place overall in the ECHL.
Picking Up Our Pacific Play
The Rivermen improved to 3-2-0 against Pacific Division opponents after winning two straight games in Las Vegas this past Friday and Saturday. Peoria opened the season 1-2-0 against the Pacific Division after a three-game set in Alaska on October 29 & 31 and November 1. The Rivermen will host the Idaho Steelheads on February 13-14 to complete seven games against the Pacific Division. Peoria plays 65 of 72 regular season games against Northern Division opponents â half of which come against close geographic rivals Cincinnati (13), Toledo (12) and Dayton (11).
The Rowe Flow
All-Star left wing Randy Rowe is in the midst of a team, season-high 10-game point streak with 18 points (10g, 8a). Over the weekend in two games in Las Vegas, he collected two points (1g, 1a). He has 15 goals over his last 18 games with 28 points (15g, 13a) and +18 plus/minus. Rowe leads the Rivermen in goals (23), game-winning goals (6), power play goals (7), shorthanded goals (3), shorthanded points (4), overall points (39) and plus/minus (+16). The 23-year-old Burford, Ontario native is tied for the ECHL lead in game-winning goals, is second in the ECHL in goal scoring, is tied for third in shorthanded goals, and is tied for fourth in shorthanded points.
Captain Keeps It Up
Captain Trevor Baker is currently in the midst of a eight-game point streak with 13 points (7g, 6a). This past week, the fifth-year professional notched three points (2g, 1a), one of them a game-winning goals. He leads the team in assists (18) and is second in penalty minutes (106). He ranks third on the team in goals (12) and points (30).
Goalie Is Good
After opening the season 0-3-1, Levente Szuper has won his last seven starts, improving to 7-3-1 on the season. For the seven-game win streak, Szuper owns a 2.14 goals against average (GAA) and a .919 save percentage. For the year, he owns a 2.94 GAA and a .886 save percentage.

Steering Our Way Through The Schedule
PRACTICES:
· The Rivermen will practice Wednesday, January 14 at Owens Center at 10:00 a.m. The team will engage in pre-game skates Thursday, January 15 through Saturday, January 17 at Carver Arena at 10:00 a.m. Practice times subject to change.
GAMES:
· On Tuesday, January 13, the Rivermen travel to Cincinnati for the fifth time this season to battle the Cyclones. It will be the ninth of a season-high 13 meetings between the clubs. Peoria won the last contest between the teams on December 27 with a 6-2 victory; it was the back end of a home-and-home set. The night before â December 26, the Rivermen had an 11-game, road unbeaten streak (7-0-4) stopped in a 4-3 loss in Cincinnati. Peoria is just 2-3-0 over the last five meetings with Cyclones; the Rivermen opened the season series with three straight wins and own a 5-3-0 record against Cincinnati. Peoria is 30-12-2 lifetime in the ECHL against the Cyclones. Cincinnati (17-16-2, 36 points) is just one point in front of the Trenton Titans for sixth place in the nine-team Northern Division, having played three more games. The Cyclones are led by center Garrett Prosofsky, who has 31 points (15g, 16a) in 30 games. The Rivermen are 3-0-1 against the Bombers this season and own a 42-22-9 lifetime record in the ECHL against them. After winning the first three meetings of the season, Peoria posted its first non-win against the Bombers, losing 5-4 in a shootout on December 11 at the Nutter Center. Dayton (13-20-3, 29 points) is in last place in the Northern Division, one point back of the archrival Toledo Storm having played two more games. The Bombers are led by Olivier Proulx, who has 30 points (9g, 21a) in 36 games. · On Friday, January 16, the Rivermen host the rival Johnstown Chiefs in the first of two in a row between the clubs. It will be the fifth of eight meetings on the season. Peoria is 2-1-1 against the Chiefs this season and 31-13-5 lifetime in the ECHL. Last time the teams met, they split a home-and-home set in Peoria. The Rivermen won going away 5-2 in the first game on December 12, before Cory Campbell (40 saves) and the Chiefs shut out the Rivermen 2-0 the following night. Johnstown (20-14-3, 43 points) is in fourth place in the Northern Division, four points behind the Rivermen having played two more games. The Chiefs are led by rookie forward Jason Notermann, who has 29 points (14g, 15a) in 36 games. It is another Coca-Cola Finally Friday.
