Johnstown Chiefs News Release
The Johnstown Chiefs (20-14-3; 43 PTS; 4th Northern div.) moved up to fourth place in the Northern division as they went a perfect 3-0-0 on the week. After being out scored 19-7 the week before, the Chiefs stormed back this week with 4-2 wins over Trenton and Cincinnati and closing the week with a 2-0 shutout over the Reading Royals. The Chiefs will play a pair of games this weekend (Friday and Saturday) in Peoria, before having a week off for the ECHL All-Star break.

GAME #35 (1/7/04) Johnstown 4 â TRENTON 2 Mather, Notermann Two Goals
Jason Notermann and Shawn Mather each had two goals for the Johnstown Chiefs as they snapped their three game losing streak with a 4-2 win over the Trenton Titans, Wednesday night at Sovereign Bank Arena. The victory was the Chiefs first road win in four games. Newcomer Larry Courville recorded his first point as a Chief, in his first game, as he assisted on Mather's game winning goal with 14:09 left in regulation. Mather added an empty net goal late in the third period. Chiefs goaltender David Currie picked up his third win of the season making 28 saves. Trenton goaltender Alex Westlund made 19 saves.
GAME #36 (1/9/04) JOHNSTOWN 4 â Cincinnati 2 Forget Two Assists
The Johnstown Chiefs picked up their second straight win Friday night, with a 4-2 victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones at the War Memorial. The Chiefs jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Larry Courville scored his first goal in a Johnstown uniform 3:08 into the game. Chad Cavanagh made it 2-0 at 3:58 into the second period. Steve Hildenbrand and Jay Langager scored power play goals to round out the Johnstown scoring. Both Cincinnati goals came on the power play as Jason Norrie and Terry Marchant tallied. Chiefs goaltender David Currie picked up his fourth win of the season making 24 saves. Cyclones goaltender Randy Petruk made 26 saves.
GAME #37 (1/10/04) JOHNSTOWN 2 â Reading 0 Currie 25 Saves
The Johnstown Chiefs picked up their third straight win as they shutout the visiting Reading Royals, 2-0 Saturday night at the War Memorial. Chiefs goaltender David Currie picked up his first professional shutout making 25 saves. The Chiefs got goals from Dmitri Tarabrin and Brent Kelly. Royals goaltender Cody Rudkowsky stopped 23 of 25 Johnstown shots. The Chiefs climb into sole possession of fourth place as they improve to 20-14-3. The Royals fall to 18-12-5.

This weekend the Chiefs travel to Peoria to take on the Rivermen (20-8-7, 47 PTS; 3rd Northern div.). The Chiefs are 2-1-1 against the Rivermen this season and 19-27-4 all-time. The Rivermen are red hot going 8-1-1 in their last ten games and 5-0-0 in their last five games. Peoria leads the Chiefs by four points for third place in the division.
CHIEFS NOTES:
Steve Hildenbrand played in 108 straight games for the Chiefs until sitting out Saturday night's game vs. Reading.
David Currie was 3-0-0 last week with a 1.33 GAA and a 0.950 save percentage.
Through 37 games in 2002-03 the Chiefs were 14-18-5.
The Chiefs penalty kill ranks #1 in the ECHL at 89.8% (149-166). San Diego is second at 89.1%.
Newcomer Larry Courville had a goal and two assists in his first three games as a Chief.
