Titans Go 1-1-1 to Stay in Seventh

TRENTON, NJ – The Titans came into the week of play riding a four-game winning streak and in seventh place in the Northern Division

Trenton took the ice early in the week once again with a Wednesday night game against the Johnstown Chiefs and looking for their fifth win in a row. It was the Chiefs who would end their three-game slide, however, on the back of two goals by both Jason Notermann and Shaun Mather, defeating the Titans 4-2

The Titans would regroup with a stellar effort against the Dayton Bombers on Friday night at Sovereign Bank Arena. Andrew Allen recorded his first shutout of the season, turning away 45 shots from Dayton in a 5-0 win. Scott Bertoli netted two shorthanded goals and added an assist for the first three-point night of his season.

The Titans and Bombers went at it once again on Saturday night at SBA and this time, it would be Dayton who came out on top with a 3-2 shootout-loss. Depsite 42 saves through the overtime, Allen was unable to out-duel Andrew Penner who made 40 saves of his own and also stopped all four Titans in the shootout.

Trenton will hit the road for a brief two-game trip against local opponents. The Titans start it up on Friday, January 16 at 7:05pm versus the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies at Boardwalk Hall. The Titans will then head west to take on the Reading Royals on Saturday, January 17 at 7:05pm.

Wednesday, January 7 vs. Johnstown – 7:00 pm L 4-2 Sovereign Bank Arena

- The Titans, looking for their fifth win in a row, had their streak snapped at four as Jason Notermann and Shaun Mather each put two past Alex Westlund. Peter Fregoe tied it in the first period on a shorthanded goal, the fifth game in a row that the Titans have scored a goal on special teams. It was Fregoe's fourth goal in three games. Scott Bertoli had a helper on Matt Zultek's goal in the second to extend his scoring streak to seven games.

Friday, January 9 vs. Dayton – 7:30 pm W 5-0 Sovereign Bank Arena

- Andrew Allen stopped 45 of 45 shots to record his first shutout of the season and his third win in a row. Special teams were the key for the Titans as they were able to kill off eight Bomber power plays including two 5-on-3 advantages. Adding injury to insult was Scott Bertoli who netted two shorthanded goals 1:22 apart in the second period to put the Titans up 4-0. Matt Zultek added a power play goal in the third period to extend his goal streak to four games.

Saturday, January 10 vs. Dayton – 7:00pm SO-L 3-2 Sovereign Bank Arena

- Bomber goaltender, Andrew Penner, snapped his five-game losing streak and Andrew Allen lost for the first time in four starts as the Bombers topped the Titans 3-2 in an overtime shootout. Bertoli tied it the score at 2-2 in the third period with his 11th goal of the season, extending his scoring streak to nine-games. Penner turned away 40 shots through the overtime and all four Titans players in the shootout for the win. Devin Rask notched a shorthanded tally in the first for the third shorthanded goal in two games against the Bombers and the fifth in three games this season.

Friday, January 17 @ Atlantic City – 7:30 pm Boardwalk Hall

- The sixth of ten meetings between the two squads. The Titans have a 3-2 series advantage this season. Last time out, Jon Cullen had two goals and an assist to lead the Bullies past the Titans 4-2 at Boardwalk Hall. The Titans are 1-2 at Boardwalk Hall this year. Bryce Cockburn has two of his five goals against the Bullies this season.

Saturday, January 18 @ Reading– 7:05pm Sovereign Center

- The fifth of nine contest this season. The Titans are 1-1-2 with two shootout losses to the Royals in '03-'04, including a 3-2 shootout defeat at Sovereign Center on 12/13/03. Matt Herneisen, a Gilbertsville, PA native, has two of his three season goals against the Royals.

Titans Streaks:

· The Titans are 5-1-1 in their last seven games

· #29 Andrew Allen is 3-0-1 in his last four starts with a 1.50 GAA and a .964 save percentage

· #19 Scott Bertoli has extended his scoring streak to nine games, during which he has tallied 15 points (9g, 6a) including two shorthanded goals scored 1:22 apart in the second period vs. DAY on 1/9/04. It was the fastest two shorthanded goals scored by a Titan.

· The Titans are 41-for-43 on the penalty kill in their last nine games, clicking at 95.3%. Their penalty kill has skyrocketed to 13th in the ECHL after being ranked as low as 29th in the league earlier this season.

· Fomerly #9, but now #26, Devin Rask is on a five-game scoring streak with 5 points (2g, 3a) and a +3 rating.

· Rask's linemate, #18 Peter Fregoe is on a five-game scoring streak of his own with 4 goals, 2 assists and a +4 rating through last Saturday's game against Dayton.

Milestones

· After this weekend's games, Bertoli is just five goals away from scoring his 100th as a Titan and 5 points away from his 200th as a Titan.

· #20 Chris Pittman is five goals away from scoring his 50th as an ECHL player
