Atlanta Gladiators News Release
On the Board: Gladiators defenseman Troy Milam tallied the Gladiators only goal over the weekend. He ripped a slap shot over the shoulder of Columbus netminder Jason Tapp at 8:55 of third period on Saturday for the Gladiators first goal in over 100 minutes of hockey against the Cottonmouths.
Called Up: Gladiators forward Kevin Doell was recalled to the Chicago Wolves on Wednesday. Doell becomes the third player this season to be called up to the Wolves following Anthony Aquino and Evan Nielsen. Doell skated for the Wolves in Chicago's 5-0 win on Thursday over the Utah Grizzlies and Sunday's 3-2 win over Cincinnati.
Watching the "A": Former Gladiators forward Mike Vigilante tallied his third assist in the American Hockey League on Friday as the Portland Pirates lost 2-1 in overtime to Manchester. In 17 games this season with the Pirates, Vigilante has tallied 3 assists and has an even plus-minus rating. Adam Munro continues to play with Norfolk and is first among Admirals netminders with a 2.12 goals against average and a .903 save percentage in 8 games of work.
On the Road: The Gladiators become road warriors as they play six of their next eight games away from the friendly confines of the Arena at Gwinnett Center. The Gladiators are 11-8-0 on the road and have won just one game in their last five tries on the road.
A New Low: The Gladiators tallied a season low 21 shots in Friday's 4-0 loss to the Columbus Cottonmouths. The Gladiators previous season low for shots was 23 set back on October 19th in a 4-1 loss at Columbus.
Tee Shirt Night: Friday, January 16th is tee-shirt night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center when the Greensboro Generals visit the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:35 p.m. The first 1,000 kids ages 12 and under receive a free tee-shirt courtesy of the Gladiators.
Teddy Bear Toss: Mark your calendars for the Gladiators Teddy Bear Toss for charity on Saturday, January 17th. Toss a teddy bear on the ice following the Gladiators first goal. All the teddy bears tossed onto the ice will be donated to local children's charities. Teddy Bear Toss is sponsored by Star 94, Hennssey Automotive and accessAtlanta.
Community Update: Gwinnett Municipal Association â Gladiators Director of Community Relations Jim Hall will be representing the Gladiators at the Gwinnett Municipal Association monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 13th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Contact Rick Johnson for more information about the Gwinnett Municipal Association at (770) 963-5509.

January 9, Columbus 4, Gladiators 0 â L The Gladiators could only get 21 shots on net as Columbus goaltender Jason Tapp recorded his second consecutive shutout as Gwinnett fell to the Cottonmnouths 4-0 on Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. John Morlang rolled a puck up the shoulder of Gladiators goaltender Michael Garnett to give Columbus a 1-0 lead at 15:09 of the first period. Columbus extended its lead to 2-0 on a two-on-one break as Marc-Andre Thinel beat Garnett on the rush at 19:23 of the second period. John Morlang extended the Cottonmouths lead to 3-0 as John Morlang beat Garnett from the left side with a snap shot at 8:42 if the third. Marc-Andre Thinel rounded out the scoring as he added his second of the night to give the Cottonmouths a 4-0 lead at 12:08 of the final period.
January 10, Columbus 3, Gladiators 1 - L
Columbus opened the scoring as Dan Tudin took a centering pass in the slot and ripped a snap shot past Gladiators goaltender Michael Garnett at 4:06 of the second period. Kenton Smith's slap shot from the point gave the Cottonmouths a 2-0 lead at 12:46 of the middle stanza. Troy Milam broke the shutout as he ripped a slap shot over the shoulder of Columbus netminder Jason Tapp at 8:55 of the third period. Columbus put the game away on a Dan Tessier goal at 16:23 of the third. A goaltending battle transpired in the first period as Gladiators goaltender Michael Garnett robbed the Cottonmouths on two point-blank scoring opportunities early in the first period to keep the Gladiators in the game. At the other end of the ice, Columbus netminder Jason Tapp turned aside 16 shots in the opening stanza.

Gwinnett leads the season series 1-0-0 following a 5-2 win at the Arena at Gwinnett Center back in October. Louis Dumont had both goals for the Sea Wolves in the loss. The Gladiators organization is 29-18-5 all time against Mississippi.
Friday, January 16th, vs. Greensboro Generals, 7:35 p.m.
Michael Garnett recorded the first of his two shutouts this season against the Generals in Greensboro. The Gladiators won the last meeting against Greensboro, a 2-1 victory at home on December 19th.
Saturday, January 17th, vs. South Carolina Stingrays, 7:35 p.m.
South Carolina has won the last two meeting in the season series, both at the North Charleston Coliseum a week apart. The Gladiators are 1-2-1 this season against the Stingrays and are 1-0-1 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
