The Week Ahead:

Tuesday, January 13 Vs Augusta -7:05 @ North Charleston Coliseum

The Stingrays need a win to go .500 on their four game home stand. Augusta has won five out of its last ten games and has a record of 16-16-3. The Lynx are 2-0 against the Stingrays this season.

The Rays have a mark of 1-1 this season against the Inferno. Columbia is the top team in the Southern Division with a record of 22-11-4. The Stingrays are 10-5-1 on the road.

Saturday, January 17 @ Gwinnett -7:35 @ Gwinnett Center

The Stingrays have played twice in Gwinnett this season with a record of 1-1. The Gladiators have slipped to third place in the Central division with a record of 22-11-3.

The Week That Was:

Tuesday, January 6 Stingrays 0 Vs Columbus 3

Jason Tapp was signed before the game by the Cottonmouths and came up with a shutout on the road. It was the first time that the Rays have been shut out this season.

Friday, January 9 Stingrays 6 Vs Greenville 4

The Stingrays exploded for five goals in the third period for the win. It was the second time in a week that the Rays have scored six goals. Ed Courtenay netted the first hat trick of the season for South Carolina in the win and Robin Gomez had two goals.

Saturday, January 10 Stingrays 2 Vs Florence 4

The Pride beat the Stingrays for the first time in four tries. The Pride's four goals in the game were more than they had scored in the three previous games combined (3).

The Team:

The Rays lost two out of three games last week to slip to a record of 20-13-1. The Stingrays are tied for fifth place with the Charlotte Checkers. The Stingrays have the third best winning percentage in the Southern Division at .603. The Rays have a home record of 10-8 and a road mark of 10-5-1. The Stingrays have won six of their last ten games. They are now just two points out of third place which is held by Greensboro. The Stingrays will play six out of their next eight games on the road. South Carolina has a record of 13-7-1 against teams within the Southern Division. The Rays power play continues to steadily improve and is now ranked 15th in the league at 16.7%. Defensively the Rays rank eighth in the league allowing just 2.59 goals against per game.

The Players:

Ed Courtenay netted the first hat trick of the season for the Stingrays in Friday's win over the Greenville Grrrowl. Courtenay leads the Stingrays with 13 goals, 20 assists and 33 points. He has six goals and two assists in his last five games and seven goals and seven assists in his last ten games. Kirk Daubenspeck picked up his 14th win of the season on Friday night against the Grrrowl. Daubenspeck was awarded the ECHL Goaltender of the Month for December. It was the third time he has received that honor with the Stingrays. Daubenspeck is 5-1 in his last six starts with a 2.51 GAA. Defenseman Matt Desrosiers has five points on a goal and four assists in his last five games.
