Norfolk Admirals News Release
Jason Morgan had a goal and two assists, and Carl Corazzini, Martin St. Pierre and Matt Keith each chipped in two points, as the Admirals defeated Bridgeport 4-2 on Friday night at Scope.
Norfolk took the lead early in the opening frame. Matt Keith emerged with the puck from behind Bridgeport goaltender Wade Dubielewicz and appeared to attempt a wraparound shot. Dubielewicz committed to Keith's shot; however, Keith passed the puck to Carl Corazzini, who was streaking in from the other side. Corazzini put the puck into a nearly empty net to make it at 4:36. The Admirals took a 1-0 lead into the second stanza.
Norfolk increased its lead to two goals just 50 seconds into the period. Danny Richmond sent a shot from the point that Dubielewicz blocked into the slot. Keith scooped up the rebound and put it into the back of the net. Ten minutes later, the lead grew to 3-0 on a slick passing play. Shawn Thornton sent the puck from the blueline to Martin St. Pierre streaking down the slot. The pass was too fast to convert into a shot, but St. Pierre was able to drop a pass back to the slot from his knees. Nathan Barrett was the recipient of the pass, and he converted it into a goal at 11:13. Norfolk led 3-0 at the second break.
The Sound Tigers got on the board with a power play goal from Jeff Hamilton at 5:01. But an Admirals man advantage restored the three-goal lead at 8:01. Corazzini sent a shot from the point that was partially blocked. Jason Morgan picked up the loose puck and was able to slide the puck past the left leg pad of Dubielewicz with two defenders draped on him. Bridgeport added a Jeremy Colliton tally as time expired, but it was not enough as the Admirals defeated the Sound Tigers 4-2.
Adam Munro picked up the win and stopped 28 of 30 shots. Wade Dubielewicz was saddled with the loss and made 19 of 23 saves.
Norfolk was 1-3 on the power play. Bridgeport was 1-3.
