LOOKING AHEAD: Several ex-Pirates return to the Cumberland County Civic Center this weekend as Hershey visits Portland for games Friday and Saturday (7:05 ET)... The Bears became the top affiliate of the NHL's Washington Capitals this season after the Pirates had held that distinction for the previous 12 years... Tomas Fleischmann, who spent his rookie 2004-05 season in Portland, ranks second on the Bears with 21 goals and 45 points this year... Chris Bourque, who made his pro debut with the Pirates late last season, recorded a goal and four assists in Hershey's 7-3 decision over Portland on Jan. 21... Geoff Peters posted a hat trick in the Pirates' victory at Hartford on Wednesday, and has five goals in his last three games... Portland has won 10 of its last 12 entering the weekend.
Rochester's bid for a 17th consecutive trip to the Calder Cup Playoffs hits a critical juncture this weekend with three key games, beginning with Friday's visit to Syracuse (7:30 ET)... The Amerks will play the rival Crunch six times over the final five weeks of the regular season... While Syracuse sits comfortably in second place in the North Division, Rochester comes in 10 points out of fourth place and in jeopardy of missing the AHL postseason for the first time since 1989... Amerks rookie Clarke MacArthur has 17 points in 16 games since the All-Star break... Captain Chris Taylor has returned from a serious thigh injury, but is point-less in his last five games... The Crunch are without top scorer Mark Hartigan, recalled by Columbus on Thursday.
Bridgeport and Norfolk are jockeying for position in the East Division entering their two-game set at Scope this weekend... It's the Admirals' return home after an 11-game road swing (4-4-2-1), and the start of a seven-game road stretch for the Sound Tigers, who are two points back of third-place Norfolk in the East... The Admirals lost leading scorer Mark Cullen to the parent Chicago Blackhawks earlier today while Bridgeport remains minus Sean Bergenheim, whose team-leading 25 goals are with him on NHL recall to Long Island... Rob Collins has 16 points in his last 12 AHL games, and 11 points in six games against Norfolk this season... Admirals forward Martin St. Pierre is tied for third among AHL rookies with 56 points on the year.

On Wednesday, Freddy Meyer's goal in the final second of regulation set up Philadelphia for a 3-2 shootout win over Carolina...
