B2 Networks AHL Game of the Week

Published on March 10, 2006 under American Hockey League (AHL) News Release

Las Vegas, NV - The B2 Networks AHL Game of the Week is actually two games involving teams looking to win division titles. On Friday and Saturday nights, the surging Hershey Bears invade the Cumberland County Civic Center to meet the Atlantic Division's first-place Portland Pirates. Both games will begin at 7:05pm EST and can be viewed only on B2 Networks.

Portland is coming off their biggest win of the season. On Wednesday night, in a showdown for first place in the Atlantic Division, the Pirates scored a dominating 5-1 victory in Hartford, over the second-place Wolf Pack. Veteran Geoff Peters led the way with a four point night that included a hat trick and one assist. After trailing the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins all season, the Bears are just one point out of first place in the East Division as they head into three road games this weekend. The boys from Chocolatetown are led by goaltender Frederic Cassivi, who will be looking for his 30th win of the year. Cassivi has a record of 29-15-5 with a GAA of 2.46 and a save percentage of .913. Cassivi has played the role of ironman this season, appearing in a league high 50 games for the Bears.

In a twist of fate many of the Bears top performers were fan favorites last season in Portland. After last season, the Washington Capitals relocated their primary affiliate to Hershey, ending a 12-year relationship with Portland. The Pirates are now the primary affiliate of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Tomas Fleischmann, Jared Aulin, Chris Bourque and Louis Robitaille are just some of the names making their only regular-season appearance back in Maine this weekend.

Fans wanting to watch either game will be able to access the broadcast through the individual team websites, or the league site www.theahl.com. The cost to watch each game is the usual price of $6 dollars. A high speed internet connection and a current version of Windows Media Player are required to view the events.
