
Monsters Spoil Sellout Crowd, Beat Texas 3-1

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (21-13-2-2, 46 points) were defeated by the Lake Erie Monsters (16-17-3-4, 39 points) 3-1 on Saturday night in front of a soldout crowd of 6,863 fans at Cedar Park Center. Lake Erie winger Ryan Stoa had a goal and two assists, helping the Monsters end an eight-game losing streak on the road. Lake Erie forwards Patrick Rissmiller and Ben Walker also scored in the win. Texas goalie Richard Bachman (13-7-2) stopped 26 of 29 shots in the loss. Lake Erie goalie John Grahame (5-6-2) stopped 18 of 19 shots for the victory. Stars center Aaron Gagnon scored the lone Texas goal in the third period. Texas will embark on a three-game road trip starting Wednesday at 11:00 am in Chicago.
After a scoreless first period, Lake Erie center Ben Walter slipped the puck past Bachman to give the Monsters a 1-0 lead. Walter notched his tenth goal of the year 3:50 into the second period. Center Ryan Stoa and defenseman David Phillips both helped with the goal. Lake Erie outshot Texas 19-11 in the first two periods of play.
Lake Erie extended its lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal by center Patrick Rissmiller at 8:18 of the third period. Right wing David Van der Gulik and center Ryan Stoa each added an assist. Ryan Stoa put in his 13th goal of the year at 12:07 in the third, giving Lake Erie a 3-0 lead. Texas notched its first goal of the night with 2:40 remaining in the third period with a goal by center Aaron Gagnon. Forwards Tomas Vincour and Francis Wathier each provided an assist on the goal.
Prior to the game, Texas recalled defenseman Guillaume Monast from the Idaho Steelheads. Monast has played in 30 games for Idaho this season, tallying one goal and four assists while adding 20 penalty minutes. The Quebec native spent his rookie season with Idaho, setting up six goals in 68 games played, helping the Steelheads reach the Kelly Cup Finals. Monast attended training camp in Dallas and in Texas each of the last two years.
The Stars begin a three-game road trip starting Wednesday, January 12 in Chicago at 11:00 AM. Texas will also make stops in Rockford and Peoria. The Stars return home on Tuesday, January 18th at 7:30 PM to take on the Grand Rapids Griffins. Every Tuesday, fans may bring any HEB store brand food product to receive $5 off their ticket price. Every Tuesday game is also 3-2-1 night with $3 domestic drafts, $2 sodas, and $1 hot dogs.
