Abbotsford Heat News Release

ABBOTSFORD - For the second night in a row the Abbotsford Heat would skate to a 3-2 shootout victory over the Adirondack Phantoms as local boy Matt Keith would be the only player to score in the shootout to put the Heat in sole possession of fourth place in the North Division.

After a scoreless first period Adirondack would open things up with Phantoms forward Michael Ryan making it 1-0 for the visitors on a power play break that would go through the legs of Heat goaltender Leland Irving just 1:58 in to the second. Adirondack would get another marker at 6:30 with Mike Testwuide firing a shot far side beating Irving. Testwuide's goal would be just the ninth shot of the game for the Phantoms bringing an end to starting goaltender Leland Irving's night, as recent ECHL call up and player of the week J.P. Lamoreux would step in for the Heat. Abbotsford would refuse to back down with Heat forward Ryan Stone banging home a rebound at 15:15 closing the gap to 2-1 by the end of the second.

Matt Keith would put the Heat right back in to the mix at 1:29 of the third by taking advantage of the traffic in front of Phantoms netminder Johan Backlund and firing his own rebound through the Adirondack goalie to tie things up at two. The remainder of the third as well as the overtime frame would fail to solve anything between the two clubs forcing a shootout for the second time in as many nights.

Matt Keith would play hero for the Heat, as he would be the only player to score in the shootout making a great move on Backlund and putting it between the goaltenders pads. J.P. Lamoureux would take care of the rest making some key stops on Adirondack's shoot out attempts.

Abbotsford will now take a break till next Friday January 14th when they take on the Toronto Marlies at the Abbotsford Sports and Entertainment Centre. Puck drops at 7:00pm.
