Hershey Bears News Release

HERSHEY fought an uphill battle Saturday night to get a standings point, but ultimately fell to the Manitoba Moose 4-3 in overtime at MTS Centre in Winnipeg.

The teams traded goals in the first period, with HERSHEY'S Dmitri Kugryshev scoring his fourth goal of the season to give the BEARS the lead. Kugryshev, part of a three-on-two into the Manitoba zone, kept the puck and fired from the top of the left circle, beating Manitoba goaltender Tyler Weiman at 8:38. HERSHEY'S first period lead was short-lived however, when Shawn Weller tipped a Nolan Baumgartner shot past BEARS backstop Braden Holtby at 9:25. The Moose had five first period power plays to HERSHEY'S one, and had nine shots to seven for the Chocolate and white, but the game was tied 1-1 after 20 minutes.

Manitoba would grab the first two goals to take a 3-1 lead in the second period, with Sergei Shirokov and Mario Bliznak providing the offense. Lawrence Nycholat would pull the BEARS within one with a left circle shot at 18:38 of the period, but the Chocolate and White would fight into the third period down a goal. Steve Pinizzotto would pounce on a rebound left by Weiman to score his seventh goal of the season. The tally from Brian Willsie and Sean Collins would tie the game and force sudden death overtime. A late penalty against Collins put the Moose on the power play for the 12th time in the game, and Marco Rosa scored the game-winner. Rosa's winning strike came at 4:37 of sudden death, and the BEARS had to settle for three points out of four on the weekend in Winnipeg. Holtby lost for just the fourth time this season.
