Desjardins jams Sharks to 2-1 overtime victory

BRIDGEPORT, CT - Andrew Desjardins scored 95 seconds into overtime as Worcester defeated the Sound Tigers 2-1 in Bridgeport on Saturday evening.

Chris Lawrence scored the other Sharks goal and Carter Hutton made 18 saves as the Sharks outshot Bridgeport 40-19 in the overtime win.

Chris Lawrence (1st) gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead at 14:04 of the first period slamming in a Cory Quirk pass from behind the net and past Bridgeport netminder Mikko Koskinen. The Sound Tigers tied the score at 1-1 on their 4th power play as Michael Haley (10th) deflected a shot past Carter Hutton at 18:57 after a hard shot from Brett Motherwell.

Andrew Desjardins hit the post with a minute remaining in the second period for the best chance from either side in the scoreless middle frame. Worcester held a 16-7 shot advantage in the 2nd period as the two teams headed to the locker room tied at 1-1.

The Sharks outshot the Sound Tigers 15-2 in the third period and Ryan Del Monte hit the post with 20 seconds remaining as the two teams headed to over time.

In the extra frame, Andrew Desjardins (5th) skated the puck in front from the left corner and jammed it past Mikko Koskinen at 1:35 as the Sharks took the 2-1 victory.

The Sharks record improves to 18-13-2-4 with 42 points and 9-7-1-3 away from the DCU Center. With the win, the Sharks are now two points ahead of the Sound Tigers for 4th place in the Atlantic Division.
