Abbotsford Heat News Release

ABBOTSFORD BC - Jon Rheault would beat Phantoms goaltender Michael Leighton on the final shot of the shootout as the Abbotsford Heat would bump their seven game losing streak with a 3-2 shootout win over the Adirondack Phantoms in AHL action on Friday night.

After a scoreless first period, Rheault would make a great move getting around two defenders in close nearly scoring while drawing a hooking penalty on the play. On the ensuing power play, Heat forward Lance Bouma would open the scoring at 14:38 of the second period jamming the puck past Adirondack goaltender Michael Leighton breaking the scoreless tie and giving Abbotsford a 1-0 lead going in to the third.

Abbotsford would build on their lead at 12:01 of the third period as Keith Seabrook would send a shot on net. Cam Cunning would jam home the loose puck at the top of the crease to double the Heat lead to 2-0. Late in the third Adirondack would get a shorthanded marker, as Jonathon Kalinski would come in on a two on one and just squeeze the puck through the pads of Heat goaltender Leland Irving to close the gap to 2-1. Then with just 23 seconds left in the third with the Phantoms net empty, Adirondack's Michael Ryan would give life back to the Phantoms tying the game at two and forcing overtime.

Abbotsford's Matt Keith and Mitch Wahl would both tally goals in their shootout attempts for the Heat while Adirondack's Greg Moore would be the lone scorer for the Phantoms. The game's first star Jon Rheault would end Adriondack's night with his shootout attempt going top shelf over the glove of Michael Leighton.

The Abbotsford Heat will take on the same Adirondack Phantoms tomorrow Saturday January 8th at the Abbotsford Sports and Entertainment Centre. Puck drops on all the action at 7:00pm.
