Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs threw 35 shots at goaltender Cedrick Desjardins but the Hamilton Bulldogs prevailed with the 2-0 shutout in front of 4,018 fans at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. The Monarchs Care Foundation collected 500 teddy bears from fans at the annual Teddy Bear Toss during the second intermission of Friday's game and they will also donate an additional 500 teddy bears to charity for the holiday season.

Manchester (12-13-0-4) is tied for fifth place in the Atlantic Division with 28 points. Hamilton (17-9-2-0) is tied for second place in the North Division with 36 points.

"We had a big effort tonight but their goalie was stellar," said Head Coach Mark Morris. "With a makeshift lineup, we competed exceptionally hard."

The Bulldogs bit first with a power play tally at 18:45 of the opening period. Defenseman Shawn Belle collected a pass at the center point from defenseman Yannick Weber. Belle then found right wing Mike Glumac along the left wing boards for a one-timer that beat Monarchs' goaltender Jonathan Bernier on the blocker side, just below the crossbar. The first goal of the game was Glumac's team-leading 12th tally of the season.

Former Monarchs center Yanick Lehoux picked up his seventh goal of the season at 5:31 of the final frame. Left wing Max Pacioretty carried the wobbly puck into the Monarchs zone down the right side. With Manchester swiping at the puck, Pacioretty sent the bouncing puck across the ice to Lehoux at the bottom of the left face-off circle. Lehoux swiped the puck into the open net before Bernier could move from his left to right. Glumac picked up his second point on the night with an assist on the play.

"The compete level was there and I'm really proud of our guys," said Morris. "With this type of compete level, we're going to win a lot of hockey games."

Bernier (6-7-2) took his seventh loss of the season with 23 saves on 25 shots. Desjardins (5-5-0) earned his fifth victory with 35 saves.

Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Hamilton was 1-for-4 with the man advantage.
